Teacher Appreciation Week is a national holiday celebrated in the United States which takes place in the first week of May. We recognize the dedicated educators across the country because they deserve it. Teachers do so much for their students and Teacher Appreciation Week is just a small thing students use as a time to give back. Students like to give gifts during this time and teacher favorites include personal notes, drawings, and gift cards. At Lyndonville Teacher Appreciation Week was celebrated with donuts in the office available to all teachers along with emails to each administrator thanking them for who they are and what they do for the school.

Last week on Friday, the photography class went on a field trip to the Seneca Park Zoo! A lot of the animals were active, as it was a sunny and pleasant day. During this trip, the class brought their cameras to take pictures of the animals for a photography project; the pictures came out amazing and they will soon be displayed in the display case across from the main office. The trip was memorable and very fun for all.

Mr. Wolford welcomes 30 baby pheasants into the technology room as of the last week of April. Due to the cut of our Agriculture class many people were worried about what we were going to do with the wonderful chicken coop we have out in front of the school. After a bit of research, they decided on instead of chickens we were going to raise pheasants. We decided to start and Agriculture club where anyone can come down and sign up to help take care of these little guys. The plan is to release them at Golden Hill State Park in mid-June and let them live their lives in nature.

On Monday April 4th, 2022 Craig Scott came to LCS to speak to both the elementary and high school students. Scott went to Columbine High School when the shooting took palce on April 20th, 1999 and his sister Rachel died that day. Scott now travels to schools around the country and talks to students and parents about Rachel’s challenge and bullying. Rachel’s Challenge is an organization in the United States that works to reduce violence. Scott makes a huge impact when he speaks, although being a heavy and sad topic, he uses the right times to make things happy and fun. There was a point in the assembly where he took a break from the heartfelt and went into a dance party. The way he keeps his audience’s attention so strong is amazing. We all learned something that day he came to speak and can be sure we’ll take his words with us the rest of our lives.

Mark your calendars! the end of march means two things: the art show and musical performance. March 25th and 26th @7:00 and 27th @2:00 come down to Lyndonville to see both Lyndonville and Medina kids show off their talent in this years musical Cinderella. Kids have been working hard up to this moment and are so excited to perform in front of all of you (please note the fine print saying kids can come in their royal wear!! so cute!)
the art show is march 25th 2:45 to 5:45 right before musical foot traffic comes right in our auditorium foyer. These art shows are some of the most interesting ways to see the kind of talent the kids in our school have k-12! be sure to stop by before the March 25th performance and take a gander at the talent every one of these students have.

Muralist, Bren Bataclan, is painting a mural here near the lunchroom and will be in the school all this week. Bataclan is an artist known for leaving more than a thousand paintings in public for anybody to take. All he asks for in exchange is for the new owner to promise to smile at people more. The mural itself is based on the drawings of some of the elementary kids with a theme of spreading happiness and fun.

Caps for kids is a fundraiser that is held to raise money for kids with cancer. This is hosted by the National Junior Honor Society. This foundation was founded in 2004 and provides children with cancer hats that are signed by both celebrities and professional athletes. This cap day always is around to raise awareness and support children that are fighting cancer. Lyndonville students are asked to donate a dollar to the fundraiser to be permitted to wear a hat. Throughout the entire school (Pre-K through 12) $279 were raised.

On March 31st the Music In Our School Concert returns. This unique concert has multiple performances from small quartets, small ensembles, to solos and trios. It's a more fast paced concert with different ensembles performing constantly, some larger than others but none are large scale. It's great opportunity to hear some more refined and amazing performances from individuals and specific sections of the band and chorus.

Due to COVID-19, for the past 2 years masks have been mandated in New York state schools in attempt to slow the spread of the virus and keep our students and staff safe. On March 2nd, 2022 the mask mandate was lifted and the governors office has announced that mask wearing will now be optional. With the announcement that masks are optional, students and staff are not required to wear a mask but they still have the ability to do so.

On February 5th All County returned since Covid. It was held at Holley High school and featured three ensembles which included Elementary Band, Junior High School Chorus, and Senior High Band. The conductors this year were different conductors from some of the schools which included, Jim Steele from Medina, Zach Busch from Holley, and Kyla Leno from Kendall to conduct for Senior High Band. Mrs. Trupo represented Lyndonville conducting a performance of "Didn't my Lord Deliver Daniel". Due to Covid each ensemble was reduced from the usual amount creating a smaller yet more refined band truly broadcasting some of the best young musicians in our county. Representing Lyndonville for Senior High Band included Rory Smith, Megan Hardner, Lorelei Dillenbeck, Annabelle Follman, and Ethan Gardner.

On February 2nd 2022 (groundhogs day) in Western Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil was taken out of his den to make the prediction whether or not we will have 6 more weeks of winter. Phil saw his shadow and he has predicted that we will have 6 more weeks of winter! The accuracy of the groundhogs prediction is between 35- 41% and not too reliable, so it is possible that there is still hope for an early spring and warmer weather!

The Christmas concert went very well this year; After not being able to have an actual concert in our auditorium for a long time due to the pandemic, it was a very nice thing for everyone to come together for the concert. The students sang and played beautifully and the entire audience was very joyful and they loved the performances. Also, the music boosters took time to hang up decorations and make everything come together to look festive! all around, everyone worked very hard to make the Christmas concert wonderful.
The Elementary School Musical - The Lion King
12/15/21
The Elementary school kids performed their rendition of The Lion King, and after weeks of hard work and practice the kids were ready to perform. The kids did an amazing job throughout the play even with “no help backstage” says Mrs. Follman. They decided to leave it up to the kids to “run” their own play, and they did fantastic! The kids looked so amazing in their eccentric, but very colorful costumes. It was obvious that there was lots of time put into this musical while you watched it, “the detail was on point” says one parent. “I would’ve watched it over and over again,” said another.

Fred Large Wrestling Tournament
12/11/21
The Fred Large Tournament hosted at Lyndonville ran smooth outside of a few power outages. Our LCS wrestlers put up a good fight as a team against a very large field of very tough wrestling schools. Mr. Zeliff says ¨it is nice to see the communities support for this tournament and we look forward to continuing to improve the tournament in years to come¨. Coach Suhr says, "we wrestled about as well as could be expected in a very tough tournament. Beating 16 teams and coming just short of first place. A great start to the year." The Lyndonville seniors performed their senior play, Inn-Cognito, directed by Mrs. Lacy and Mrs. Bow. After practicing for a month, they gave a hilarious performance. Inn-Cognito is about Hollie Berry (Gracie) and her kids (Aasiya, Maddox, Karlee, and Shawna) opening up an old resort hotel they recently inherited, which seems like it’ll be a roaring success. First, a pair of bird watching sisters, Patty and Pearl Partridge (Amanda and Ella), show up, followed by high profile guests from Liechtenstein - the Count and Countess of Monte Sisco. (Ethan and Rory) Unfortunately, it doesn't take long for things to go South. A diamond bracelet belonging to the Countess suddenly goes missing. When someone suggests it was swiped by a ghost, the Partridge sisters confess they’re not birdwatchers, but ghost hunters trying to gather footage for a reality show they want to sell. According to them, the ghost of a mobster, Rat Face Louie, has haunted the hotel since he was gunned down there. You can imagine everyone’s surprise when the very next guest is a classic gangster-looking woman (Brynn)! He’s followed by a pair of the worst folk-singing hippies ever. (Kendra and Roman) In this spirited comedy, Hollie and her kids quickly learn that nobody at their hotel is who they say they are.

After 10 years at Lyndonville CSD, Mr. Smith has made the decision to change school districts and be the new superintendent at Batavia City School District. When asked what steps were taken for his decision to leave, he responded that typically you need to formally apply, but he was asked about possibly filling the position prior to announcing his departure from Lyndonville. It was all confidential before it was confirmed. Mr. Smith also says, the district in Batavia is much larger. There are about 2,000 students there compared to Lyndonville which there are about 600 at LCSD. With there being more students and more buildings in the Batavia City School District, there is more to manage. When asked what his favorite memory about being Lyndonville's superintendent, he responded "meeting with students and having lunches with them." Mr. Smith explained with COVID this was much harder to do, but throughout his years at Lyndonville he learned a lot and he will miss the community.
