GCC held their annual graduation on May 21, 2022, Rebecca C. of Lyndonville was one of the many graduates that attended the graduation. She has received her associates degree in Liberal Arts and Science before receiving her high school diploma. She started going to GCC in 7th grade after being accepted into the program that was brought to her school in 6th grade. She has been going to college for 6 years now and has taken anywhere between 2 and 6 classes through GCC during each school year, along with college credit classes through Lyndonville. This opportunity has allowed her to only pay less than $20 per credit hour, saving her and her family a lot of money compared to the regular price of classes at college. She says, "this has been a great opportunity and I am happy that I did it when I could so I had the resources here at school to make my classes easier."

February marks the start of Black History Month
2/15/22
February means Black History Month, so take some time to appreciate important black figures in history. Black History Month was recognized in 1976 by President Gerald Ford who urged people to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout history.” Though its origins go even further back than that. Often when people think of Black History Month, they immediately think of people like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Jackie Robinson. While these are very good examples of influential black people, there are many others that are overlooked. Shirley Chisholm was the very first black woman elected to congress and served from 1969 to 1983. Gordon Parks was the first black director of a major film, which happened in the seventies, not so long ago. He said, “I saw that the camera could be a weapon against poverty, against racism, against all sorts of social wrongs. I knew at that point I had to have a camera.” Marsha P. Johnson was a trans woman and activist who became a major part of the LGBTQ movement and continuously fought for equality. Black History Month also isn’t limited to the black people of the United States, Bessie Coleman found that she couldn’t be a pilot here in the States and moved to France. There she became the very first licensed black pilot in the world. Black History Month is used as a means of honoring black individuals of the past but also inspiring and giving hope to the black people of the present and future.

Each year, the Student Council decorates a tree for the Lyndonville Christmas Celebration. The students chose an orange theme. The tree contains orange lights and a tiger tree topper to incorporate Lyndonville's impecable school spirit. It is enjoyable for the students to decorate the tree and to know they are a part of making the town look festive for the holiday season. You can go and see the beautiful Tiger Tree in town. It is located down the row on the side of the library on main street. They hope you enjoy the tree as much as they did decorating it.

The new Dollar General was built on main street in Lyndonville and opened October 28th of 2021! The community has loved it so far. “I’ve been there a couple times since the opening to get a Red Bull before school so I can get through the day and I’ve had a great quick experience each time. The staff that I’ve been assisted by is great and pleasant. The location is so convenient for me personally and I know it is for many others too,” opinion from Brianna K. Due to the winter season it is very convenient to have the store right here in town, it makes for a safer quick trip to the store when there is snow and slush all over. It also helps with lowering our taxes here in Lyndonville. Stop by if you get a chance and see how great it is!
