Sylvia Mendez and her parents fought to end segregation in California. As an American with Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage, Sylvia spoke perfect English. She was not allowed to enroll in a Whites-only school. Her parents decided to hopefully change this major issue by asking the Hispanic community for help and filing a lawsuit against the school district. The Mendez family along with the Hispanic community changed the world by ending segregation in California.
