"There once was a prince who wanted a wife. But not any niña would do in his life." The queen, la reina, won't let just any girl marry her son. She has a magic weapon, un guisante (pea), that she will place under twenty colchones (mattresses) as a test to see if this maiden has what it takes to be a princess. But the prince has other ideas and decides to help fate along so that his mother will have no choice but to accept his true love.
Here comes a fresh take on the classic Princess and the Pea fairy tale told in a Peruvian setting. Winner of the 2018 Purá Belpre Award, this book has rich illustrations that depicts a culture rarely discussed in schools. Children will love this rendition as it is filled with Spanish vocabulary and will also want to know more about Peru and other cultures in South America.

Three billy goats need to get across a bridge but a grumpy troll stands guard blocking their way. Each time a goat tries to pass, they manage to convice the troll to let them pass and eat the bigger goat that's coming behind. But when the last goat gets to the bridge, he finds there is a reason the troll is so grumpy. Can the goats help the troll and become friends?
This spanish twist on the classic fairy tale "Three Billy Goats Gruff" will delight children as they learn new words in a different language. A great read to do alongside "La Princesa and the Pea" by the same author.
