World Languages and Cultures

Bienvenue! ¡Bienvenidos! Willkommen! Salve! to

Dominion High School's World Languages and Cultures Department!

The World Languages and Cultures Division of the Department of Instruction affords students from middle through high school the opportunity to study an array of world languages.

Students who have studied and attained higher proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation will be eligible to receive the Seal of Biliteracy from the Commonwealth of Virginia. This award encourages students to pursue biliteracy, honors the skills our students attain, and can be evidence of skills that are attractive to future employers and college admissions offices. Through these programs, the LCPS World Languages and Cultures Office provides language skills and preparation for students to have a broad understanding of the world, proficiency in other languages, and knowledge of other cultures. The department chair at Dominion is Mrs. Kathy McDermott.

Seal of Biliteracy - The Seal of Biliteracy is an award made by a state department of education or local district to recognize a student who has attained proficiency in English and one or more other world languages by high school graduation. The Seal serves to certify attainment of biliteracy for students, employers and institutions of higher education. It is a statement of accomplishment that helps to signal evidence of a student’s readiness for career and college, and for engagement as a global citizen.
