EL Services

The Larkspur-Corte Madera School District supports the language development of English Learners through Integrated Support and Designated Support.

The California ELA/ELD Framework for instruction was adopted in 2014. It recommends a comprehensive approach to (English Language Development (ELD) instruction that involves two angles – Integrated ELD and Designated ELD. These are the left and right hand of ELD instruction because you can’t have one without the other. Every school needs both because every EL student needs both.

Newcomer EL students are students who are new to the United States and require additional support to learn English in addition to their primary language.

English Learner Designated Support is provided by district Reading and EL/Literacy Specialists as a pullout service in small groups.
