All late assignments will be penalized or not accepted at my discretion. With my permission, the work may be late for a maximum of two days (weekends count as two days). I try to ensure that the homework due date is not on a Friday (except for book reports).
Ten percent (10%) will be deducted for each day overdue. If the work is not handed in at the beginning of class on the third day, the student will receive a zero as a mark. Extensions will not be permitted in the Term Three. The agenda will always be stamped if homework is late. In the agenda, you will see the stamp, “English Homework Not Done”. On the first day late, I will write -10%. On the second day late, I will write -20%, and on the third day, I will write 0. If the work is late and the agenda has not been stamped, it is because the student is not bringing his/her agenda to class.
Extensions of more than two days are granted only if there is a death in the family. If the student was absent when the homework was first assigned, and have not returned to class by the time the assignment was due, the student will be given the equivalent amount of time to complete the work. A note from a parent is required.
Anything done in class that I give at least two weeks to complete, must be handed in on the day it is due. The two day extension does not apply. For example, I usually give 10-12 weeks to complete a book report. It must be handed in on the day it is due. No extensions are permitted unless the student is absent that day. It is expected that the assignment be handed in as soon as the student returns to class, or it will result in a mark of zero.
If a student is absent the day his/her group assignment is due, I do not penalize the group. However, if all the group members are present in my class the day the assignment is due, and a member of the group does not bring in the work that was his/her responsibility, the group mark will reflect this. It is very important to choose the members of your group carefully.
If however, I chose the members of the group, and one of the members did not bring in his/her part of the assignment, then only that individual will be penalized. When you do not have the choice of your group members, it is not fair for me to take off marks when you are doing your homework.
If the in-class process of accountability does not show a change of behaviour towards homework, the student will be referred to the administration for further involvement.
