For this project, you will need a scrapbook. It must be a scrapbook or a photo album scrapbook. I do not want this project in a binder or notebook. This project will allow me to get to know more about you, and will also enable you to learn about yourself and your heritage.
You will need to include the following:
1) Title page (first page inside the scrapbook):
All About Me
John Smith
100-01
Find a photo of yourself as a young child or a baby and place it on the top left-hand corner.
2) Table of Contents (second page):
Table of Contents
My Heritage Page 1
My Family Page 2
My Customs Page 3-6
My Favorite Foods Pages 7-9
My Favorites Pages 10-13
My Ambition in Life Page 14
Extra Things Page 15
You must make a heading for each section of your project. Only Page 1 & 2 must be in this order. Each page must be numbered. Do not page number your cover page or your table of contents. All your writing should be on the right hand page of your scrapbook. You can use the left side for pictures if you want, but if the pictures or flyers are heavy, they must rip the page in your scrapbook. Here are the sections that must be in your project:
A) My Heritage> What is your nationality (i.e. Canadian)?
What are the nationalities of your parents & grandparents?
Tell me a story about your family's history (worth 3 marks).
Include some pictures or photos.
B) My Family> How many members are in your immediate family?
Do you have pets?
Are you the youngest or the oldest?
When and where were you born?
Can you make me a family tree (bonus marks)?
Include some pictures or photos.
C) My Family Customs> Do you celebrate Halloween, birthdays, religious holidays?
What do you do to celebrate?
Include some pictures or photos.
D) My Favorite Foods> What are your favorite things to eat?
Do you have a favorite recipe to share?
Include some pictures and a flyer from your
favorite restaurant or take out.
E) My Favorites> Tell me about your favorite TV show, movie, videogame, song,
singer/group, book, magazine, sport team, actor, actress, and athlete?
Do you play sports or have hobbies?
Include some pictures or photos.
F) My Ambition in Life? What do you want to do when you grow up?
Include some pictures and photos.
Here is an example of one of these pages:
My Heritage
I was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am Canadian. My parents were born in Ontario, Canada as well. My father's parents were born in Canada. My mother's parents were born in the USA.
One story I have about my family was about my mother's father, Irving Wellington Armstrong. He wanted to sign up for the first World War but he was only sixteen. He almost was enlisted until they found out about his age and he was refused. It probably was a good thing because he might never have met my grandmother, and my mom and I might not have been born. My grandfather became a musician and had his own swing and jazz band.

Each section should be at least one page each. Add lots of color, pictures, photos, and cut-outs. The more creative it is, the better the mark. Watch your spelling and grammar! It is very important that this project is neat and organized.
Do not write directly on your scrapbook pages. Type your information or hand write it on a sheet of loose leaf, and then glue it on your scrapbook page. Do not use white glue as it can be very messy and leak through. Use a glue stick to glue things in your scrapbook. Make sure the markers that you use to decorate your scrapbook do not leak through to the next page or it will look messy.
You will have class time to work on this scrapbook.
EACH OF YOUR PAGES MUST BE NUMBERED EXCEPT FOR THE TITLE PAGE AND THE TABLE OF CONTENTS. EACH SECTION MUST HAVE THE SECTION TITLE WRITTEN AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE IN THE MIDDLE AND THE TITLE MUST BE UNDERLINED UNLESS YOU ARE USING BIG STICKER LETTERS.
Please read over the rubric carefully so you know how I am marking your project. If you forget anything, you will lose a lot of marks! Be careful. Have a parent review your project to ensure that everything is included.
Have fun! This will be a great keepsake. If your parents do not want you to glue family pictures in this scrapbook, photocopy the pictures and use the photocopies. I will accept black and white pictures (after all, many of your older family pictures must be in black and white).
