Welcome to our team of substitute teachers!
Substitution provides an excellent opportunity to introduce yourself, to get to know our school communities, and to gain valuable teaching experience.
Here are some of the expectations you should be striving to meet:
Arrive early enough to be in your assigned classroom with all required materials before the class begins, and respect the school’s schedule.
Upon your first visit to each school, familiarize yourself with their emergency procedures (evacuation and/or lock-down) and know where to find the plan in the classroom where you are teaching.
Take attendance and follow the teacher’s lesson plan if one has been provided.
Be equipped with a variety of appropriate options in the event no plan is provided.
Dress for the weather in case your assignment requires you to be outside for any instruction or supervision.
Provide favorable learning situations and use effective classroom management strategies.
Leave the class and materials in place and in good condition, and provide adequate written feedback for the teacher you replaced.
Present and conduct yourself professionally, treat students, staff and other teachers with respect.
Be available and willing to seek and accept assignments on short notice.
Answer and/or return phone calls, and reach out with an explanation in the event of a cancellation. (It is unacceptable to drop assignments on a whim and cancellations will be monitored.)
Please read all the information carefully, and bookmark this site so you will be able to refer to it again in the future.
The list of substitute teachers will be updated periodically based on a variety of factors. Remaining active as a substitute will be contingent upon meeting the needs and expectations of the Board and our school communities.
Your substitution profile may be closed if you do not accept enough assignments, if you do not maintain your availability properly, or if there is a pattern of schools removing you from their list of eligible substitutes.
If you know you will not be available for substitution for an extended period of time, inform Human Resources by sending an e-mail to dispatchHR@lbpsb.qc.ca.
If you become available again and wish to request reactivation, send an updated CV and recent professional teaching references by e-mail to teacheremployment@lbpsb.qc.ca.

When you are starting out, it’s a good idea to share your CV with the schools closest to you to introduce yourself and let them know you are a new substitute teacher in their area. If you completed a field experience with us, be sure to advise your cooperating teacher(s) that you are now available to substitute.

Special note to new graduates:
Once final transcripts are available (stating that your diploma has been granted), request an official copy to be e-mailed to the attention of Samantha Parr at sparr02@lbpsb.qc.ca. When you receive your brevet/license, upload a copy to your Scolago profile under Education, or send a scan or a photo of it by e-mail to Janette Coronado at jcoronadovenegas@lbpsb.qc.ca.
PAYROLL
The School Secretary enters the minutes worked so the School Secretary should be your first point of contact if you have a question about the pay for a specific day or assignment. The first time you work at any given school, the Secretary will need to know your employee number in order to find your file in the payroll system.
Substitution is paid based on minutes/hours of classroom instruction and student supervision. These can vary from absence to absence, especially at the secondary level. Pay close attention to the absence notes for details that may be important.
The pay cycle is bi-weekly. Example: Pay issued September 22, 2022 covers minutes/hours of occasional substitute teaching from August 28, 2022 to September 10, 2022, and/or long-term substitution or contract teaching from September 11 to 24, 2022. The cycle repeats every two weeks.
Current pay grid for occasional substitution in the youth sector (effective April 1, 2022):
0 to 60 minutes $ 46.52 + 4% vacation $ 1.86 = $ 48.38
61 to 150 minutes $ 116.30 + 4% vacation $ 4.65 = $ 120.95
151 to 210 minutes $ 162.82 + 4% vacation $ 6.51 = $ 169.33
211+ minutes $ 232.60 + 4% vacation $ 9.30 = $ 241.90
EXCEPTION:
The schedules at PCHS, Westwood Junior & Westwood Senior are based on 75-minute periods. Pay for substitution at these schools is calculated at $ 0.93/minute up to the maximum of $ 232.60 + $ 9.30 (4% vacation) = $ 241.90.
