1. Is there a daily time limit for kids who are in the virtual classes?

YES. All students will have a prescribed instructional schedule during the day. Students must complete the required minutes per day to receive course credit.

PK-2nd grade – Students will work on their own time, pre-recorded instructional sessions will be available for students to watch. Daily phone calls may be made in which teacher and students will review the content and the progress in mastering that content.

Grades 3-5 – Students will log into their class. The work that will be provided to students should take them approximately 3 hours daily to complete. Activities may include; students watching or participating by typing a response onto a "virtual bulletin board" Students will complete daily assignments and receive daily feedback from the teacher.

Grades 6-12 – Students will log into their class. Parents and students should expect it to take approximately 4 hours to complete assignments. Students will complete the assignments and participate in discussions using the learning management system for all courses they would normally be scheduled in if they were attending face-to-face.


2. Once we chose either the face-to-face learning or remote learning, can we change our mind and choose the other type?

Yes, you may move between the two learning models. Because this change will result in your child being assigned to new teachers, the changes can only be made at the end of each six-week grading cycle.


3. What happens if most families choose the face-to-face options? Will there be enough room to accommodate social distancing or will there be a limit of how many students can select the face-to-face option? Updated 8/31/2020

La Vega campuses have calculated the number of students each classroom can safely manage to keep the social distancing mandates. Based on parent selection of learning environment (in-person or remote) each campus has identified capacity. To keep staff and students safely six-feet apart, classrooms will be set for a maximum number of students. A priority system will be used IF there are more in-person students than room capacity.


4. How will La Vega ISD address the social / emotional or mental health concerns of the children?

The district counselors are available to support students academically, socially, and emotionally and can provide mental health support or resources for our families who may be struggling emotionally. Access to outside counseling has been available to LVISD students for the past three years and will continue. LVISD is using resource material developed by Texas Tech and coordinating with CIS (Communities in Schools) to provide support to students.

5. Will teachers get to choose if they want a remote or face-to-face schedule?

There are several factors that must be considered in the assignment of staff (medical certifications / documents). All La Vega ISD faculty are expected to provide virtual instruction as well as face-to-face instruction.

6. What is the plan if staff have to quarantine or if they get sick? Will the district provide extra sick or personal days for staff?

Quarantine is determined by the health department. In addition to existing leave balances in effect for La Vega ISD employees, the provisions of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) which is in effect through December 31, 2020 and will be followed.

7. Will LVISD require daily screenings of students, staff and visitors

Yes, each student, staff, and visitor will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms and have their temperature taken upon arrival on campus by a trained staff member.

8. Will Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses be offered?

a. For students who opt to take remote learning courses, only a limited and specific number of CTE courses will be available online. Many of the courses have hands-on requirements based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) or program needs and certification requirements. High school students may select to take CTE courses that are not offered through a remote learning format in a face-to-face format. For CTE courses that have a required hands-on portion (CAN, welding, construction), students must attend the face-to-face portion. Students who do not attend, will not be awarded course credit and could fail the course.

9. Will there be athletics offered (volleyball, football, soccer, basketball, track)?


The UIL governs all sports offered at La Vega ISD. Students who participate in athletics will be required to meet UIL requirements, be enrolled and attend the athletic class and after school practices in person. Remote students will need to furnish their own transportation to and from athletic class and after school practices.

10. Will there be the performing and visual arts programs (band, theater, NJROTIC)?

Virtual learning is possible for these contents. Students who attend remote school may participate in extracurricular activities (before and/or after school rehearsals, practices, performances, and competitions) if they met all UIL requirements, are enrolled in the applicable course section, and are able to attend designated rehearsals, practices, performances, and competitions. Remote students must have their own transportation to and from practices, rehearsals, and performances.

11. Will meals be provided for students who select remote learning? Updated 8/14/2020

Yes, students who participate in remote learning will be able to pick up a hot lunch every day at each campus. In addition to the hot lunch, each child will receive a breakfast for the next morning. Meals are served from 10:30-12:30 at all LVISD campuses.

12. Are immunizations required for remote learning?

Yes, at this time the Texas Department of State Health Services has not waived the vaccine requirements for students.

13. Will every child receive a digital device?

Yes, technology devices will be provided to parents and students from the students’ home campus. Parents must sign-up to bring proof of residency and check out the device for their child. There will be limited staff on each campus to assist parents with these two tasks. Walk-ins may not be able to be assisted. Students will not be assigned a digital device without completing the proof of residency requirement of registration.

14. Will students participating in face-to-face learning need school supplies?

No, LVISD understands that families are experiencing financial hardships and have committed to providing school supplies for children in face-to-face learning to the degree possible.

15. Have there been changes to the La Vega ISD Dress Code for students participating in face-to-face learning?

Yes, there has been a few changes to the student mode of dress to aid families that are under financial stress. The updated Student Dress Code can be downloaded from the campus webpage, www.lavegaisd.org

16. How can I be sure that my child will receive the same level of instruction remotely as the students who are attending face-to-face?

Students attending school remotely will have the same level of engagement with their classroom teacher as students who are in-person. Younger students who will attend instruction asynchronously will get scheduled support from instructors and will have a daily engagement requirement to ensure that they stay on track. All students who receive special services including Dyslexia, 504 and special education will receive all supports as outlined in their plans.

17. If my child fails to complete an assignment on Monday but completes the assignment later in the week, can the student's attendance be changed to present? UPDATED: JULY 22, 2020


No, In the remote instructional method, a student's attendance is measured daily, and attendance is assigned based on the student's completion of that day's engagement measure. Students who do not complete the daily measure will be counted absent for that day, and that absence cannot be changed.


18. If my child decides to complete the entire week's worth of work on one day, can his/her attendance count for the whole week? UPDATED: JULY 22,2020


No, In the remote instructional method, student attendance is measured daily, and the engagement is measured on the student's completion of that day's measure. Students who do not complete the daily measure of engagement are counted absent for that day. The absence cannot be changed to present even if the student completes the tasks on a later or earlier date. The student would be counted absent for four days.

19. Is there a minimum attendance rule this year? UPDATED: JULY 22,2020

Yes. The minimum attendance for class credit (rule of TEC 25.092)) is in effect for the 2020-21 school year. Students are required to attend at least 90% of their classes to receive credit and be promoted.

For the fall semester, students cannot miss more than 8 days. For the spring semester, students cannot miss more than 8 days.

20. Will truancy laws be in effect for Remote Learning this year? UPDATED: JULY 22, 2020

Truancy laws WILL apply to students who fail to attend school. Students who are in remote learning will be held accountable for daily attendance and subject to attendance rules just like the face-to-face students.

21. Will the after school care program be provided this year? UPDATED: August 5, 2020

Yes. The memorandum of understanding has been updated with YMCA for after-school care. This will begin when students return to campus on September 8, 2020.

23. If students already a device (laptop, iPad, Chromebook), can those be used instead of checking out a device from the campus? UPDATED: JULY 22, 2020

Yes. If families have mobile devices and internet, the student will be able to login to their account. Directions will be posted on each campus website with directions for accessing the daily lessons.

24. Will dual language classes be offered both virtually and face-to-face? UPDATED: JULY 22,2020

Yes. Parents who choose to have their children enroll in dual language course can select virtual instruction or face-to-face. It does not matter if the child is in remote learning or face-to-face.

25. Can students who chose remote learning enroll in dual credit courses at high school? UPDATED:JULY 22, 20202

All fall dual credit enrollments through McLennan County Community College (MCC) will be online courses. Students who select face-to-face instruction on campus will be enrolled in an online section with MCC but will be in a LVISD classroom with a dual credit instructor or a facilitating teacher. Some dual credit courses are taught by LVHS dual credit credentialed instructors LVISD will continue to provide textbook access for all dual credit students.
