Register with DSPS

To be eligible for DSP&S service, the requirements are:

  1.  Current student enrolled at LATTC. (New students can start matriculation process in the Bridges to Success Office located in Student Support Center, D3-105 ).

  2.  Provide an official verification of disability(ies).

    • Verification forms must be signed by a licensed professional: Medical Physician, Psychologist or Psychiatrist.

    • Verification of Disability such as:

      • Statement indicating the disability or health issue from doctor/agency on their letterhead

      • Recent High School IEP with test scores

      • DSPS Verification of Disability signed by the doctor/agency

  3. Student who show proof of verification of disability(ies) (shown above) will be given a follow up appointment to attend the DSPS Eligibility Workshop. Appointment required.

DSPS Mission Statement

The goal of the Disabled Student Program and Services is to provide accessibility and academic accommodations to all Los Angeles Trade Technical College students with disabilities. The mission is to facilitate equal access for students with disabilities, allowing full campus wide participation in educational programs, services and events by providing appropriate and reasonable academic adjustments.

Online Counseling

PLEASE READ BEFORE SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT

Please use the counselor Cafe Cards below to schedule a Video Appointment. When scheduling a video appointment or using the “Live Chat” virtual walk-in you must be prepared to collaborate in real-time with your counselor. The counselor will be using share screen, whiteboard and document sharing applications within the video meeting space.

DSP&S is working to ensure accommodations are being met during the transition of moving classes to an online platform.

Alternative Formats (E-Text)

  • Students approved for alternate formats (e.g. Braille, audio), you must submit requests via email to Alternative Media Specialist, Budi Prasetia at prasetb@lattc.edu

Assistive Technology

  • Students approved for Kurzweil will be able to utilize the program remotely through Kurzweil Firefly. Google Docs Voice Typing, Speechnotes, Apple Dictation, and Windows Speech Recognition are all free speech-to-text programs available for use.

Alternate Media

  • Zoom-in features are available through various keyboard shortcuts.

  • Zoom Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Free Zoom scripts for older versions of JAW

Interpreter/Captioner Services

  • Interpreting and captioning services will continue to be provided for students approved for this accommodation. ConferZoom training for students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) will be available soon.

Note-taking Services

  • For most online teaching modalities that include a written record, such as PowerPoint, Word Docs, and Canvas discussion boards, note-taking may not be necessary. Instructors may post their own lecture notes in lieu. Students approved for notetaking will be able to audio record online instruction, particularly live conference videos.

Testing accommodations

  • DSP&S is working collaboratively with faculty to ensure extended time is met. Faculty interactive guides will discuss how to extend testing time for students with the approved accommodation through canvas.

Counselors meet with students to determine proper academic accommodations based on students disability. They also develop comprehensive student educational plans for students in DSP&S.

Priority Registration

DSPS Students are eligible for priority registration (early registration) and special accommodation in the registration process. Please see DSPS Counselor to discuss need(s).

Interpreters

Sign language interpreting services is available for deaf students upon request. Services must be requested in advance. Please make an appointment with a DSPS Counselor.

Testing Accomodation

DSPS Students may be eligible for test proctoring services. Please discuss with DSPS Counselor to verify your are eligibility.

DSPS High-Tech Lab

Located in DSPS Center ( Student Support Center, D3-100 ), the lab is equipped with accessibility software and hardware.
