Sharing about mental health to the community of East Los Angeles at the East Los Angeles Farmer's Market. We showed our community how gardening is helpful for your mental health through seed planting demonstrations
We held our annual retreat at our school, and we had Sprinkles cupcakes for dessert!
Our biggest accomplishment this year was establishing our partnership with Eastmont Community Center. We outreached to our East LA community through attending a total of 6 Farmer's Market events. Among them, we were recognized for our participation during El Dia de los Ninos and the Women's Center Resource Fair. We engaged our students through recruiting participation for the GirlsBuild Summit 2021, hosting lunch activities for our 4 Fun Fridays with Mindful Gardeners and 5 Griffith Community Garden Days. Our impact is measured through our attendance lists.
End of Year Reflection
The Mindful Gardeners are proud of all the work we have accomplished this year! Throughout the year, we collaborated on our presentation that spreads awareness on Mental Health and how to take care of ourselves. Our presentation's theme is "Water your plants, Water your mind" which eventually became our team's slogan. We kicked off our work by presenting to 34 Cal State LA undergraduate students and received positive feedback from them; which confirmed that we were doing important work and that our message needed to be heard. We went into the Spring Semester brainstorming how we could continue spreading our message and decided to present it to our Griffith staff and teachers. We also wanted to encourage our staff and teachers to apply our slogan and hosted our first teacher' appreciation drive-through; where we gifted cacti, coloring book and, pencils. For this event, we established a partnership with a local small business, Earth Soul Arrangements. We also wanted our peers to hear our message, which is why we decided to host our very first student interactive assembly and were able to reach 850 students. Students were engaged and responding to our prompts through the chatbox. In the month of April, we received news that some students would be returning to Griffith for hybrid learning. We brainstormed ways to welcome them back and support this transition. As a team, we decided to go chalk our school with welcoming messages. Additionally, in efforts to beautify our school and in celebration of Earth Day, we collaborated with leadership and planted cacti by our main entrance. To wrap up our semester, we will be presenting to our next target group, our parents, on May 20th!
We are proud of the work we have accomplished this year and are excited to continue expanding the MGs!
