Mission Statement
We are the Mindful Gardeners, a group of ambitious and dedicated middle-school students in search of change and leadership, addressing conflicts in our school environment and community. More specifically, our project is focused on mental health, and teaching our community members about activities they can do to take care of their mental health. Our slogan “Water your plants, Water your mind” helps us spread the word on how to take care of your mental health like how you would take care of a plant. Just like plants need water, sunlight, vitamins, and a healthy environment to grow in, so do we. We attend the East Los Angeles Farmers Market monthly to increase awareness of mental health by giving out seed planting kits and doing other fun activities.
Griffith STEAM Magnet is one of the largest comprehensive and high achieving middle schools located in the heart of East Los Angeles, and the only STEAM certified middle school in our community. Our goal is to equip students with the skills needed to thrive in a modern global economy in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics
FAQ
We are the Mindful Gardeners, a couple of middle schoolers with green thumbs! We believe mental health is very important, as it allows us to cope with normal life and enables us longevity. There are many current issues, especially during the after effects of COVID, and mental health is definitely one of them. Being confined in four walls all day during the pandemic had an affect on us all and some of us were feeling stir-crazy, confined, sad, depressed, etc. If you are someone who struggles with your mental health, there is hope, and there is help!
This is a place in which you can learn how to cope, especially with plants. We have articles, information on us, our blog, etc.
We reside in East LA, Cali. But, this website can be of good use to all people, no matter where they reside.
The Mindful Gardeners use caring for plants as self-care. We believe this can enhance and help our mental health recuperate, since plants are a small piece of nature, which soothes and heals. Plants also have many benefits to humans. For these reasons, we consider plants our representation and a special weapon.
The Mindful Gardeners ages range from 11-14, considering they are middle school students.
The Mindful Gardeners saw a few GirlsBuild teams from neighboring schools, some of which were a few blocks away! Of course, this opened doors for the Mindful Gardeners to envision themselves as a group in which can help their community, and the rest is history.
Our School Year 2020-2021

We assigned the following roles:
File Manager: Larissa
Budget Manager: Evelyn & Sarahi
Website, Social Media & Videographer: Nathalie & Emma
