Physics: The universe
Physics of the Universe is a laboratory-based college preparatory course. Through the integration of Physics and Earth and Space Science standards from the California Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), students focus on questions about observations of specific real-world phenomenon.
STUDENT WORK
Kinematics
Students will be able to understand the general relationships among position, velocity, and acceleration
Online Simulations used: Vector Addition, Energy Skate Park, Projectile Motion
LT4: Analyze and Interpret Data
LT6: Construct Explanations and Design Solutions
Energy Conservation
Students will investigate the nature of energy and how it is expressed in different forms.
LT2: Develop and Use Models
Students began the process of understanding the Law of Conservation of energy through a phenomena they are very familiar with, roller coasters. Through inquiry, they were able to develop their understanding through online simulations and edit their initial thoughts and ideas.
Online Simulation: Roller Coaster Model Interactive
Even through distance learning, students continued to engage in the necessary lab components that a physical science classroom requires by collecting observational data.
waves
Students will study the behavior and applications of waves.
Online Simulations used: Molecules and Light, Waves on a String
Pictured above is a student work of an initial model of our investigative phenomena for our wave unit, which is technology. They construct explanations based off of their own personal knowledge and as the unit progresses, their knowledge of the phenomena increases to produce work such as the examples below:
