Course description:
Project, inquiry based physical science course studying the interactions of the world around us Recommended Pre-Requisites:
Strong background in math
C or better in Algebra I
C or better in Geometry
Enrolled in Algebra II or higher math is encouraged
C or better in Chemistry (indicating experience with lab/data collection)
Course description:
Introductory college-level biology course. Students cultivate their understanding of biology through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics like evolution, energetics, information storage and transfer, and system interactions.
Pre-Requisites:
Strong foundation in freshman Biology (B or better recommended)
Chemistry (C or better)
Course Description:
Students who take APES will work to understand the interrelationships of the natural world to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made and find alternative solutions for resolving and/or preventing them. Students will examine the concepts of human environmental impact through questioning, modeling, hands on investigation, data analysis, mathematical and computational thinking. Students will construct explanations and design solutions while exploring the topics of Earth Systems and Resources, the Living World, Population, Land and Water Use, Energy Resources and Consumption, Pollution, and Global Change.
Two years of high school laboratory science:
One year of life science with a “B” or better (Biology)
One year of physical science with a “C” or better (Physics or Chemistry)
One year of high school math:
One year of a high school level analytical math with a “C” or better (Algebra 2 or Pre Calculus)
One year of high school English:
One year of high school level critical thinking English with a "C" or better (English 10 or English 11)
Course description:
Hands-on, Inquiry based call studying the structure & function of the human body. Recommended Pre-Requisites:
Strong background in freshman biology
C or better chemistry
Can be taken alongside of AP Bio or any other science elective
Course description:
Astronomy AB is an advanced science course. The purpose of Astronomy AB is to present a representative sample of the known facts, evolving ideas and frontier discoveries in contemporary astronomy. The course will highlight both the scientific principles and underlying work done in astronomy and the process used in discovery. These concepts will reinforce student’s understanding of the Scientific Method, how the universe works and connections among the various fields of science. (From LAUSD catalog)
