READING DECATHLON '25 - '26
Students use the Sora app to access the LAUSD's digital library, including ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines, in alignment with the California Model School Library Standards. Through guided and independent use of Sora, students access information by applying knowledge of the organization of digital libraries and online resources (CMSLS: Access).
Students evaluate and select appropriate digital texts to meet the purpose and scope of their inquiry or reading goals (CMSLS: Evaluate). Features such as embedded definitions, note-taking, highlighting, customizable display settings, and reading statistics support students as they use information ethically and effectively, organize ideas, and monitor comprehension (CMSLS: Use).
Sora supports independent learning and reading engagement, while providing scaffolding for diverse learners, including struggling readers, through audio support and adjustable reading tools (CMSLS: Engage). Students also build digital literacy skills by navigating digital platforms, managing accounts, and accessing multiple sources, including the option to connect to public library collections, promoting equitable access and lifelong learning (CMSLS: Access, Engage).
> LAUSD Students were given a Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) Student Success Card (SSC) and PIN in 2017, even if you don’t remember getting one or have never seen the card.
> You don’t need a physical library card to use LAPL. If you visit the library in person, your school ID can be used to check out books. You can also use your SSC and PIN online to get access to lots of free library resources.
> You can find your SSC and PIN in Schoology by following the steps in the PDF to the left. Click on the PDF to enlarge the doc and see all the instructions.
