The library space is available to the Fulton Community on a first-come, first-served basis. To schedule time with the Teacher-Librarian, please schedule a visitation. For drop-in visitations, the library's seating area and computer are available for teachers and staff to use for activities such as testing or as an alternate location, without reservation, when available. To check availability, please call the Library. Teachers must monitor students in the library during unscheduled visits (book stacks and lounge are closed). Please note that staff members are also welcome to schedule testing sessions in advance to ensure reservations are made.
For your first visit to check out books, please email Ms. Claudia Williams at cwilli12@lausd.net. Teachers should confirm appointments scheduled by the librarian at least 24 hours before the visit. Appointments may be rescheduled or canceled unless confirmed the day before the visitation.
The following times are available for scheduling a visitation:
MON & FRI: Periods 1, 2, 3, 6
TUES: Periods 1,2, 3, 4
WED & THURS Periods 1, 2, 3, 5
Advisory visits are available upon request
Conference periods and librarian lunch periods are not available for visits:
MON, TUES & FRI: Period 6
WED & THURS: Period 5
Lunch: Occurs at the end of Period 3 & beginning of Period 4.
DAILY 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm
TUES 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm
Students can visit the library independently before or after school, as well as during lunch. To check out a library book independently, please send students with their Student ID and a Library Pass to the library. Thank you for sending students during non-conference hours only. If several students (more than 3) need to select new books, please confirm with the teacher librarian before sending them to the library. Students may access the computer lab during class time for research or testing. Please get in touch with the TL before sending groups.
Printing services are available for printing reports and final copies of work free of charge. Copies are black and white only. Teachers are asked to follow the same protocols for sending students to the library independently, as outlined above. Students who arrive at the library for printing must be prepared to print only.
All students must scan their student ID upon entry at lunch. Students who do not present their student ID information or follow Library Expectations may be asked to leave the library for the day.
The library opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 3:56 p.m. During these nonpeak hours, we are available to support students with Reader's Advisory and make book recommendations. Students may return books before and after school or during lunch.
Students are welcome to browse the book stacks in pairs. Larger groups of students should have a call number, author, or title in mind when searching for books. The computers are available to search the catalog. Students will need their email and password and must log in to the Wi-Fi through a two-step process.
Please have students line up outside the library in an orderly line. The teacher or the teacher-librarian should guide students to the designated seating area (or computers). Students will await instructions before entering all areas of the library.
Teachers may assign students a table number upon their entry into the library. There are eight tables, each with three seats. Seating is arranged, and students are expected to follow the guidance of their classroom teacher or teacher librarian about where to sit upon entry to the library, accompanied by their classroom teacher.
All computers are numbered. Please have students line up and follow directions on which computer to access.
Supervision of students is required when visiting the library, especially during book checkouts. Students are not allowed to run in the book stacks. Teachers can assist students in locating books in the book stacks. Students will remain seated at the tables until dismissed to the book stacks or computer lab. The lounges are closed to students during visitations unless otherwise specified. After checking out a book, students should return to the seating area and refrain from sitting in the lounge or wandering around the library.
The Dewey Decimal System organizes the library; all fiction titles are organized alphabetically by the author’s last name. Students in middle school may struggle to find books, as they are not organized by genre. It’s recommended that students learn how to use the database for our online catalog. Students are encouraged to bring their Chromebooks to the library for instruction on finding fiction books in the catalog for independent reading or class assignments and non-fiction books for reports. Students will be taught how to search for books by call number. Using data like the student's Lexile measure from iReady may help students identify books at their independent and interest level. Future collection development will include genrefied and leveled selections. Students can also search Destiny Discover for genrefied selections or search for genres by keyword.
Databases, access to vetted sources, and research are integral components of high school and college preparation. Lessons are available for all high school classes to enhance your research projects and show students how to cite sources correctly. LAUSD no longer subscribes to most databases, and students will have to access online databases through the Los Angeles Public Library, L.A. County Libraries, and Universities. All students have access to a LAPL Student Success Card directly through Schoology with their library card numbers and pins beginning in September 2023. Due to the new interface for accessing databases, please be prepared to spend some time learning how to connect to them. Please send any ideas or projects to the teacher-librarian for additional research support.
Fulton College Prep has a Protocol for Testing in the Library 2024, published 10/28/2024.
The Conference Room is currently reserved for IEP meetings. Please see Ms Meza for more information about the scheduling. The Book Processing Room can be utilized as an alternative meeting space. We can accommodate guests who require a workspace during their visit to our campus, as well as therapists who need a meeting space to meet with students. The restroom is not intended for student use. For security purposes, the hallway door will remain locked. When using the restroom, the restroom door must be closed and locked. Please secure the hallway by closing the door when exiting.
