Socrates once said that "wisdom begins in wonder". I believe that curiosity is necessary to make powerful changemakers. We have to be passionate about our work and to find that passion, questions must be asked. All it takes is one initial spark of curiosity to create a winning idea, or at the very least to educate us and make us better thinkers. I started this semester very familiar with the phrase "I hate going outside". Eventually, curiosity pushed its way in and I started to explore nature a little more. Now at the end of this semester, although I still don't think I will find myself chomping at the bit to leave the indoors, I not only respect and see the beauty in it, but I can confidently say that I simply like it.
EJ Changemakers are driven to know more about the world and make a habit of observing, pondering, and questioning their environment.
EJ Changemakers strategically seek out reliable sources of data, on both the past and the present, and use that data to inform their understanding of the climate crisis and their decisions on how to restore environmental justice.
EJ Changemakers maintain optimism by being well-informed on liberatory solutions to environmental crises, and draw on these solutions while advocating for change to encourage enthusiasm.
Read "The Overstory", by Richard Powers
The Overstory sparked wonder for me by introducing me to trees and nature being intellegent and powerful on their own. Reading this book and conducting the research that followed completely shifted my thinking and started my exploration of ecocentrism.
Radish Experiment (I am going to add the biorender when I am done)
I created and used data on how radishes grow and taste with varying levels of nitrogen added to their soil. I conducted this experiment to discover a way to raise and lower the levels of spice in radish plants.
This slide is from a presentation on the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are liberatory solutions to environmental crises, and by creating policies with those in mind, the world will become a better place.
