ActiveLearn (Throughout Primary)

What is it?

ActiveLearn is a platform which can be accessed at home to enjoy didactic eBooks allocated by the teacher.  In school we use this platform for reading (BUG Club).

How  can we access it?

The platform can be accessed online using the website address:  https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk

Any web browser is acceptable although for optimum performance we recommend Firefox or Google Chrome.

Each pupil will be given their own username and password so that they can access their ActiveLearn profile at home.

What is expected of the pupils?

Our reading specialists teacher organizes and evaluates the digital books that are allocated to each student´s active learn account.  They will be asked to read at least three times a week (if not more) and a reading journal (paper) should be signed and sent with each student to be reviewed by their class teacher weekly.

What are these activities like?

The pupil´s profile contains a section called ´My Stuff´.  Here they will find all their allocations.

On successful completion of the books, the pupil earns coins to buy rewards on their ActiveLearn profile.

For more detailed information on Bug Club and how it is used, please contact our reading specialist Susan Latham (s.latham@laudenewtoncollege.com)

Education City (Throughout Primary)

What is it?

Education City is a platform which is used in school to enhance our lessons and improve learning.  Teachers can create personalised areas with tasks for their students which are know as ´My City´.  Within these cities the teacher can allocate a variety of resources for the students to be completed as ´Classwork´or ´Homework´.  It is also a great tool for parents and students to revise specific learning objectives.  Using the search tool you or your child can search for content and can learn or practice any objective in English, Maths, Computing or Science.

How can we access it?

Education City can be accessed via their website:  https://ec1.educationcity.com/

What is expected of the pupils?

At present, Education City is used mainly in school and not as homework, therefore, we do not have expectations as to what the students should be doing at home.  We do recommend that they make the most of this great platform to study or reinforce learning whenever they can at home.

Below you will find a written case study which explains how we use this platform in primary in much more detail.  We also have a link to a webinar given by Victoria Esler which explains more about innovations in our school.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom is a free web service developed by Google for schools that aim to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students.

Google Classroom combines Google Drive for assignment creation and distribution, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides for writing, Gmail for communication, and Google Calendar for scheduling. Students can be invited to join a class through a private code, or automatically imported from a school domain.

Each class creates a separate folder in the respective user's Drive, where the student can submit work to be a graded by a teacher.

Teachers can monitor the progress for each student, and after being graded, teachers can return work along with comments.
