Dear Airy Community,
It is amazing to think that we are already over half way through the Academic year. During modules 3 and 4, our Airy college community has continued to thrive across yet another busy and exceptional term. Airy college attendance ends Module 4 with a year to date attendance figure of 92% which continues to be above national averages. Although there is still some work to do to get it to the minimum target of 95% across all tutor groups!
Airy Student Celebrations
Students across year 7 continue to impress us with their commitment and dedication to learning. Year 7 Airy students continue to top the leaderboard for attendance with 95% attendance since September. Year 7 also tops the leaderboard with the most merits in Airy with an impressive total of 6309 merits across 7C and 7F! A huge personal well done to 7C with the highest merit total across the college of 3252.
This module, Y10 students took part in their very first round of GCSE PPE mock exams. We were all very proud of how mature and committed our students were during these exams. Year 11’s students also undertook further PPE exams in their EBACC subjects. It has been wonderful to see how positively students across both year groups have engaged with the challenge and dedication to their studies.
A special mention to Miss Gough's tutor group 11F who has seen the highest attendance across all year 11 groups in the Academy since the start of Y11. As a reward, 11F were able to have a ‘double break’ on Friday 10th March. We are very proud of the students in 11F for their resilience. Particularly during these critical months in year 11.
Airy Stars and Student of the Fortnight
Each module in Airy, we celebrate and recognise students in the college that have gone above and beyond each week. Students who have consistently demonstrated the LAB values of Ambition, Integrity, Resilience, Scholarship and Respect are celebrated and recognised by our college community. Each week, the tutors have been nominating a member of their tutor group identifying the reason for their nomination. The wider Airy college team votes for the winning student every week.
Each student has received additional LAB Ambassador merits. All students nominated receive appreciations in virtual assemblies with the reasons they have been nominated also shared.

World book day
As you are aware, we celebrated World Book day at LAB on Friday 9th March. The Airy college staff and students did not disappoint with their efforts of dressing up as their favourite book characters and joining in on all of the activities throughout the event. It was great to see so many students and staff taking part in the annual celebration.
At the end of each module, we also have the opportunity to invite students to attend our Airy Celebration Breakfast. Students will be invited for constantly displaying the LAB values and for collecting the highest amount of merits. The event falls on the last week of the module.

Digital reminders
We have been really fortunate to have our new digital monitoring system, Smoothwall rolled out at LAB this module. In place to safeguard students while using their chromebooks both in and out of school to ensure they are safe and being digitally responsible. Thank you to parents and carers with your support in this regard.
It has come to our attention that some students are not always being digitally responsible and incidents on TikTok, Snapchat where some students are being unkind have been picked up. We are also concerned about the use of very worrying websites such as Omegle and Discord.
Whilst we expect students to live our values at all times, we cannot of course supervise the behaviour of students outside of school on social media. We would ask, therefore, that all parent[s]/ carer[s] continue to monitor their child’s use of social media, particularly in relation to these sites.
As I’m sure you will appreciate, the resulting fallout of any unkindness on social media can have implications for harmonious relationships within school and a resulting negative impact on teaching and learning.
For more information on how to monitor your child’s use of social media, please visit: https://www.net-aware.org.uk/tips-and-advice/
If you seek additional advice and support in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact the Academy.
Our Airy College Team
This module we welcomed an additional Student Services Manager to our team. Mrs Altman, joins us with a wealth of experience, working alongside Mrs Gilmore and Mr Murdock.
A message from Mrs Altman to our Airy community and parents/ carers:
“I have enjoyed my first few weeks at LAB and have been getting to know students, parents, carers and staff. I moved from another Greenwich school and have a background in safeguarding, wellbeing and pastoral care - I am looking forward to using that experience and also becoming involved with attendance. “
Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our community both in school and at home for your continued support. We are looking forward to welcoming you back in the new year to start module 5. A reminder of the return date is Monday 17th April 2023 at the usual time. We would like to see all students with all equipment and in the correct LAB uniform. If you would like further details or clarification for what this is please see the Academy website.
Myself and all Airy College staff would like to wish you all a very enjoyable and restful Easter break.
