This term, we will be following different lines of inquiry to help us to find out about how “People may use a variety of methods to express and communicate ideas.”
The lines of inquiry we will explore are:
Use of symbols in communication (function)
Different ways to communicate (perspective)
Expression through art (form)
As part of our provocation we discussed what we knew about communication and what we would like to learn. Following on from this we played silent charades and a silent drawing game where we passed the drawing to the next person who continued the picture. No one talked or made a gesture, they just drew! We also looked at the use of symbols to communicate information and created our own symbols for each letter of the the alphabet to communicate a message.
A scavenger hunt helped us decipher essential vocabulary. It was an engaging way to deepen our understanding! We also found synonyms for each word.
In our Art lesson, we discussed what we understood about different forms of communication. We looked at the pop artist Keith Haring, famous for his cartoon style artwork with bold, bright colours with a thick black outline.
In outdoor learning we used natural materials to create pop art in the style of Keith Haring.
