This term, we will be following different lines of inquiry to help us to find out about how
“Human actions may have a positive or negative impact on the natural environment.”
Our lines of inquiry include:
What deforestation is (form)
How ecosystems are impacted by human actions (causation)
How rainforests can be protected (responsibility)
As part of our provocation, we explored how human actions can positively or negatively impact the environment, which sparked some interesting discussions. We sorted photos, comparing the Amazon Rainforest with the New Forest. A scavenger hunt helped us decipher essential vocabulary. It was an engaging way to deepen our understanding.
We participated in a virtual reality workshop about the Amazon Rainforest. We explored each layer of the rainforest flying over the emergent layer as well as exploring the forest floor. We came face to face with leafcutter ants, the Amazonian tarantula, the slow sloth as well as the mischievous capuchin monkeys. It really brought our inquiry learning to life.
In art, we have been learning about sculpture. We carved a sculpture from soap inspired by the abstract sculptures of Barbara Hepworth.
