Caring for our common home at Cardinal Langley
The students at Cardinal Langley RC High School have been working hard this year on their Lasallian Leavening Fund garden project.
Since our last report we have been building the new raised beds and painting them to ensure they will last longer. The students diligently carted by wheelbarrow a total of two tonnes of soil into the garden to fill up the raised beds. We have been weeding and maintaining the garden, preparing the raised bed areas for the spring to plant up. We have been weaving in the new shoots on the willow walkway.
The students have spoken with a local nursery to get advice and ideas of what to plant. We have decided on having some areas of edible fruit and herbs, a sensory patch and lots of colourful flowers to help create a good environment for rest and prayer.
The students have researched and chosen a statue of St Francis of Assisi to place in the garden. Our next task amongst the general work to maintain the garden is to create the statue prayer focal point with a Statue of St Francis, birdfeeders and flowers. We will also be looking into how to repair the decking area to make it a safe seating area. In the spring we will be planting up the garden, with flowers, fruit and herbs.
This project has been an opportunity for the students and staff to learn about stewarding and caring for our Common Home. Providing a space for others to come and enjoy, helping them lift their minds and hearts up to God the creator of the universe.
The prayer space in the garden will help to remind us of the Holy presence of God, who is always with us, reinforcing the Lasallian spirituality core principle of Faith in the presence of God.
