Summer Reading Challenge

Summer Reading Challenge: Transition Task

Dear Parents and Carers,

Over the Summer Holidays we are setting a reading transition task for children currently in Reception up to Year 5 in order to prepare them for their next year at Lark Rise Academy.

We are very excited that the books we have chosen for this year are:

Current Reception and Year 1: 'The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me' by Roald Dahl.

Current Years 2 and 3: ‘The Rainbow Bear’ by Michael Morpurgo.

Current Years 4 and 5: ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ by Onjali Q. Rauf.

We would really appreciate it if you would purchase your own copy of the book to support your child with this transition activity. If this is a problem, please let the school know by contacting the office by Friday 16th July at the very latest.

We will be using the text to complete some activities in the first weeks of the new term, therefore we would really like all the children to have read the whole book, if possible.

Your child will be coming home with an activity pack and details of the housepoints they will receive as a reward.

We want this to be an enjoyable experience and are very happy for you to read the book to your child or take turns, you could even purchase an audio copy to listen to if you would prefer.

Please note, the children who are moving into Reception classes in September (Owls and Robins) will be given a slightly different Summer Reading Challenge of their own. This will involve a hunt for different features in a range of books! Details will be sent out to parents.

Please contact us if you have any questions. Many thanks in anticipation of your support.
