Reading Newsletter

Welcome to our first reading newsletter!

Dear All,

Welcome to our first edition of the Lark Rise Reading Newsletter. I am delighted to share this with you. We hope that you will find it a useful way to hear about our developments in reading in school and also to offer ideas and suggestions of how you can support your child with reading at home. There is also a page with suggestions of books to try.

As we have implemented our new book-based English curriculum over the Summer Term, we can already see the impact that this is having on the children's passion for reading and in turn, their writing. Recent visitors to the school were blown away by how passionate our children are when they started to talk about the books and poetry they are exploring in school! The key texts we have read over the Summer Term are listed below. You can read children's reviews of some of them on the Review Page.

KS1 Key Texts

The Sheep-Pig by Dick King-Smith

The Secret of Black Rock by Joe Todd Stanton

LKS2 Key Texts

Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream By Andrew Matthews

The Secret of Platform 13 by Eva Ibbotson

UKS2 Key Texts

Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo

Darwin's Dragon's by Linsday Galvin

If you click on the 'More' tab at the top of this page, you will also find information about our Summer Reading Challenge and this term's winners of books from our 'Reading Robot'.

We are continually thinking of new ways to raise money so they we can buy enough copies of all the key texts for each class to use. If you have any suggestions or would like to help with donations, please get in touch.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Victoria Smith
