History

Year 5 have been finding out about the effect of conflicts through the ages. We visited Operation Dynamo to see how conflict affected people in WWII and the Fire Command Post to find out about how Dover was important in WWI. There was graffitti from French prisoners held in Dover Castle carved into the walls showing their family crests and messages asking God to 'save them from this place'. We visited the Princess Regiment museum to find out about different conflicts through history and saw a football that was kicked over the trenches in 1914 and a scarf knitted by Queen Victoria for those who fought in the Crimean War. We looked at different sources to gather information such as artefacts, letters and newspapers.
