EYFS
Supporting Your Child's Early Reading Skills at Home
Welcome back to Module 4 we hope you have all had a good half term break. This week we have welcomed Mrs Cooper into Apollo Class as their new LSA, whilst are looking forward to hearing news about Miss Sugden and her new addition.
The children are looking forward to celebrating World Book Day on Friday 3rd March, where they can all wear their pyjamas.
Please see a few hand hints to help your child develop their reading skills at home.
Talk to your child as much as possible - share family stories about yourself, your grandparents or other family members.
Play rhyming or riddle games.
Make reading fun - use silly voices, encourage your child to join in with the repeated phrases in the story or use actions to make it fun.
Share magazines together, it is important that children learn that we can read for fun.
Read every day - by sharing stories for a short period of time everyday it will teach your child that reading is important and fun. Perhaps, make a cosy place in the house where you can share stories together.
Be a great role model - model reading menus, cook books, newspapers and instructions to help you in day to day life. As your child's confidence grows they will begin to help spot sounds and words that they recognise.
Turn take - when reading perhaps share the role of reader for each page. This also helps to build your child's stamina for reading.
