EYFS

Welcome to the EYFS page of the weekly newsletter. Each week we will focus upon a different aspect of the EYFS curriculum, how you can support your child in school and also how we teach it within our classes. At the bottom of our page, there will also be links to our weekly learning newsletters which will focus in more detail on information specific to your child's class.

WOW, what a busy week we have had in our Early Years classes this week. All of our Early Years team are so proud of the way the children have risen to the challenge of starting in either our Nursery or Reception Classes. It has been a pleasure to see the children's confidence grow each day!

A huge part of supporting the children with their transition and new learning journey, is to develop their understanding of their emotions and how to cope in different situations. This week the children have begun to use the colour monsters to talk about how they are feeling as well as our 'zones of regulation'. These are coloured zones that match different feelings. For example:

Yellow Zone (Wobbly) : "I'm feeling a bit wobbly as I miss my dog".

Red Zone (Stop): "I'm feeling angry as I want to have a go on the bikes".

Green Zone (Good to go): "I'm feeling calm as I had a yummy lunch and a nice cuddle with Willow".

Blue Zone (Running Slow) : "I feel a bit slow, as I was tired this morning".

Within each of our Early Years classrooms we have 'zones of regulation' boards that encourage children to name and talk about emotions, understanding that our emotions can change throughout the day. It is really important that the children see adults and their families talking about their emotions, to help them to develop a deeper understanding of the feelings of those around us.
