Black History Month

The month of October is also UK Black History Month. The theme of Black History Month this year is "Sharing Journeys". While we should be celebrating all of our different cultures, no matter the month of the year, the purpose of Black History Month is to have a specific moment in time to look at Black heritage within our history and to share this with the wider community. UK Black history goes back nearly two thousand years with evidence of African people living in Roman Britain. In fact, archival research suggests Black communities have been living in the UK since the 1500s. It is so important that our children understand this and celebrate it.
