Line of Inquiry 1: An Inquiry into Healthy Lifestyles
This term the children have looked at healthy lifestyles. This involved examining the habits, behaviours and choices that contribute to an individual's physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
The children explored different varieties of fruit and vegetables that are available. We prepared our own fruit salad, practiced our chopping skills and got the opportunity to taste different fruits.
Linking to our text of 'Oliver's Fruit' and 'Oliver's Vegetables' the children were able to experience different fruits and vegetables that was on offer during lunch time.
Line of Inquiry 2: An Inquiry into How We Manage a Healthy Lifestyle
During this line of inquiry, the children explored health and hygiene. Our linked text 'Of All The Nonsense in my Teeth' helped us to identify what causes bad oral health and understand how this can be avoided.
We were thrilled to receive a visit from the local dentist during which we got to practice our brushing skills and show the dentists how we keep our teeth nice and clean. We also got to ask the dentist some fantastic questions about their job and our teeth.
Line of Inquiry 3: An Inquiry into the Impact our Choices Have
This line of inquiry explores the story of 'The Little Red Hen.' The children learnt how the choices we make can affect others negatively, reflect on this and to be able to change our lifestyle choices accordingly. Just like in 'The Little Red Hen', pupils made a delicious bread that everybody helped to make, unlike the characters from the story.
Reception pupils participated in their first Sports Day which went very well. All children had a fabulous time and were outstanding.
Line of Inquiry 4: An Inquiry into Seasonal Changes
For our final line of inquiry for the academic year, the children's learning was linked to the summer season and our focus text 'The Sunny Day.' The children researched how to stay safe in the sun and made a poster promoting this.
The children have been very creative by designing their own sandcastles and enjoyed making fork paintings to create sunflowers just like the story. We discussed the different types of animals and sounds we would see during the summer, such as dragon flies hovering over ponds, and the sounds of crickets rubbing their wings in the long grass. The children then took this new learning into Forest School to apply this new knowledge.
