Line of Inquiry 1: An Inquiry into Transport.
This term, nursery children have been engaged in an exciting line of inquiry into transport, exploring how people and goods move both locally and around the world. Inspired by stories such as Naughty Bus, Trains, Trains, Trains, and Emma Jane’s Aeroplane, the children developed their understanding of different modes of transport through storytelling, role play, and hands-on experiences. They particularly enjoyed Naughty Bus, which sparked their imagination and led them to take photographs of real buses in their community.
Using these images, the children created their own version of the story, developing language and sequencing skills as they narrated new adventures for the bus.
Line Of Inquiry 2: An Inquiry into Transport in our World.
As the inquiry progressed, the children extended their learning by investigating a wide range of vehicles including buses, trains, cars, airplanes, and boats. They explored how these vehicles work, asking questions and engaging in simple experiments to understand wheels, engines, and movement. Creative expression played a big role as they built 3D models of different vehicles using recycled materials, demonstrating their understanding of shapes, design, and purpose.
Through this transport inquiry, the children not only expanded their vocabulary and knowledge of the world but also developed collaboration, observation, and problem-solving skills in an engaging, real-world context.
Line of Inquiry 3: An Inquiry into how Journeys Connect Us With Others
This term, nursery children explored the theme of journeys and how they connect us with others through a rich and imaginative inquiry. Using stories such as We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, The Treasure of Pirate Frank and What a Wonderful World, based on the song by Louis Armstrong, the children considered both real and imaginary journeys. They discussed the people they met along the way, the emotions that come with new adventures, and how different places in the world are linked together. These stories opened up conversations about movement, exploration, and connection, helping the children understand the wider world and their place within it.
As part of this inquiry, the children reflected on their own journey as they prepare to move on to "big school." They have been brave and enthusiastic risk-takers, embracing transition sessions with confidence and curiosity. From sharing experiences with new teachers to celebrating their achievements during our class graduation, they have shown readiness for the next stage in their learning journey.
We are incredibly proud of how far they’ve come and how much they’ve grown. Have a great summer, and the very best of luck to all our wonderful leavers as they begin their next exciting chapter!
