Supporting regular school attendance

Attendance is a big predictor of high school graduation. We understand that, at times, there are factors such as basic needs that need to be met which impact school attendance. If there are barriers to school attendance, I'd like to discuss them with you and support you and your family. Please reach out to me, your student's teacher, or administration.

How is our school different ?

LAVA's attendance differs from other school since we are in a virtual setting.

Students earn their attendance credit by doing these two things each day:

Student need to attend their classes scheduled time online.
Students need to complete all their class/school work assigned on that day. This includes the assignments in the program for their core subjects as well as iReady, and Google Classroom assignments.

LAVA also differs from a comprehensive campus in that:

Students are able to log-in to their class and complete work from anywhere with a secured internet connection. Going on vacation is not an acceptable absence; the student is able to take their technology with them to complete their school work.
Students can make up the days they missed in the event they are sick or need to go to medical appts. Attendance credit is applied once all work on those missed days are turned in. Please make sure you are have good communication with your student's teacher.
Students may be dismissed from the Academy and asked to return to their home-school if they are not participating in the program. Student's must maintain excellent attendance and earn C's or higher (2.0 GPA) in order to remain in the program.

LAVA celebrates attendance each month!

Each month LAVA participates in district and site specific Attendance Competitions. Those who are POL (Present Online) during the competition
will receive a certificate and may also recieve other prizes and earn Digibucks to spend in our students store.
