Your responsibilities to the District
Your responsibilities to the District
A substitute teacher has the responsibility to provide a stimulating learning environment for students. The standards of performance are the same. Your success as a substitute depends upon your ability to function successfully within the District’s philosophies and goals, and to teach students of varying ethnic/racial, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds. The substitute teacher will function in the role of a regular classroom teacher. The same professional standards apply. They include:
Satisfaction in seeing students learn
Ability and willingness to work in different classroom structures
Resourcefulness
High expectations for achievement and behavior
Be particularly careful NOT to do the following without authority from the site administrator:
Change groupings
Dismiss class early
Allow a student to leave classroom without permission
Take major disciplinary action without the principal’s or designee’s approval
Release a child from the classroom or school during school hours without written permission from the school office
Use any materials not authorized by the District (e.g., home videos)
You are responsible for knowing all district policies and regulations related to mandated reporting of sexual and physical abuse of children, sexual harassment, and substance abuse.
Ongoing requirements for Substitute Teachers
Obtaining and renewing your required credential
Instructions for renewing your credential
Obtaining and renewing your proof of a negative tuberculosis clearance
Notifying the district of any changes to your contact information
Prep Periods
Regular classroom teachers in grades may have scheduled preparation periods during the student day. During this time, you may be asked to substitute in another classroom, or the absent teacher may leave tasks for you to perform. These duties are expected as part of your regular paid service as a substitute.
Professional Dress
All substitutes are expected to maintain a professional appearance. Clothing should be worn that is appropriate to the position and that models a high standard for students.
Work Day
When accepting a position in Frontline make sure you are aware of the start and end time of your assignment. It is best to allow yourself time to familiarize yourself with the site, Office staff, and review the schedule for the day.
At the end of the day make sure you leave a note for the classroom teacher about how the day went, leave the teacher's desk and assignments neatly organized. Check out with the office staff to make sure your timesheet is complete and there are no other duties you need to complete before you leave.
Plan ahead because our students are counting on you
When accepting a position in Frontline make sure you add these assignments to your calendar. If you need to cancel your assignment, please do so as early as possible so we have time to find another substitute. If you are unsure about an assignment you have accepted and want to know more about the assignment please contact Human Resources.
If you accept two half day assignments, please take into consideration travel time. You may not leave one assignment early to head to your next assignment.
