We at the Lakewood City Schools continually strive to ensure that our students and staff members are teaching and learning in as safe an environment as possible. Thanks to the community's generosity, we have newer buildings that include many upgraded safety features are old buildings did not such as electronically controlled door locks and cameras that are livestreamed directly to the Lakewood Police Department. We employ security guards at the high school and have two full-time Lakewood Police Student Resource Officers. We hope this page gives you some reassurance that the District will always take seriously the safety of your student and our employees
Safer Ohio School Tipline

Lakewood City Schools uses the Safer Ohio School Tip Line, a free resource available to all Ohio schools. The tip line is an anonymous reporting system that accepts both calls and texts 24 hours-a-day. This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety — whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.

Safety Trainings:
Lockdown Drills:
State law requires that public school buildings conduct lockdown drills three times per year. Lakewood City Schools conducts four each school year, two per semester at each building. Announcements are made advising staff and students we are conducting a lockdown drill. The drill entails teachers locking their classroom or office doors and instructing all in the room to hide out of sight. Anyone in the halls is told to report to the nearest classroom or office. Once all doors are checked by security personnel, another announcement is made to advise that the drill is completed. The supervisor of security for the District takes care of any issues during the drill, and items needing to be repaired or addressed are taken care of immediately.
Other Safety Drills:
The District complies with state law by conducting six fire drills per school year at our buildings with sprinkler systems. Nine drills are required at buildings without sprinkler systems.
The District participates in the citywide tornado drill, usually held in late March or early April and is required to conduct drills each month during tornado season when school is in session (April, May, and June).
