These are the answers to questions students asked in the opening survey.

Do you have any kids?

  • Yes, Michael (Mikey) is 7 and Darcy is almost 5.

Where did you go to college?

  • University of Notre Dame

How young are you?

  • 41

Do you have any pets?

  • A 13 year old cat (Minerva) who hates everyone except me and an 8 month old puppy (Otto) who loves everyone

What is one word you would use to describe yourself and why?

  • Enthusiastic. I think I bring enthusiasm to everything I do.

How long have you been teaching for?

  • This is year 17. All at Lakewood High School

What's your favorite sport?

  • I played soccer and ran track in high school (but wasn't very good!) Now I LOVE watching baseball. I'm an Indians junky.

Hobbies?

  • Singing, hiking, birdwatching, reading, yoga

What's your favorite color and favorite music artist?

  • blue; I honestly don't listen to music much! I am always listening to a book on my commute. I've always had a special place in my heart for the Beatles.

Why did you get into science?

  • I took a Biology class my sophomore year in high school that was SOOOOO interesting! I loved learning how things work. Since then, my passion has never waned.

Do you teach any other classes?

  • Not right now. I've taught Ecology, Field Ecology, regular physical science, and introduction to physical science in the past.

What is your favorite food?

  • Tough one. I love eating! Anything salty and sweet, like chocolate covered pretzels.

Do you have any siblings, if so how many?

  • There are 5 kids in my family. I am #3.

What's your favorite topic to teach (specifically)?

  • I love teaching about the universe. We will get there at the end of the year.

Why did you choose to teach advanced science?

  • Funny thing, teachers don't actually get to choose what they teach. But I love teaching this class. I like the questioning and the challenge that students bring to me. It keeps me fresh as a teacher.

What is your favorite subject (other than science)?

  • Probably history. I love reading historical fiction and non-fiction and learning about people from other times.
