Graduation Requirements: Physical Education 1, Physical Education 2, and Health



Graduation Requirement: 6010 Phys Ed 1 (½ credit)

Students will participate in a variety of team and individual fitness activities. Fundamentals of fitness, injury prevention, problem solving and cooperation will be emphasized. Students are provided with a lock and locker. Students must provide gym clothes, sneakers and towels. If a student is unable to participate for medical reasons, a doctor’s note is required. Any class time missed must be made up before credit is received.

Graduation Requirement: 6020 Phys Ed 2 (½ credit)

Students will participate in a variety of team and individual fitness activities. Fundamentals of fitness, injury prevention, problem solving and cooperation will be emphasized. A greater emphasis on lifelong activities is placed on this year than Phys Ed 9. Students are provided with a lock and locker. Students must provide gym clothes, sneakers and towels. If a student is unable to participate for medical reasons, a doctor’s note is required. Any class time missed must be made up before credit is received.


Graduation Requirement: 6030 Health (½ credit)

The goal of this course is to explore and examine personal and community health issues, as well as equip students with the skills and resources needed to make positive health decisions. Subjects discussed in the course are wellness, nutrition, substance abuse prevention, disease prevention, human growth and development, healthy relationships and human sexuality. Students will be expected to maintain an organized notebook, and work on class presentations individually and in groups. Videos and guest speakers will be used to enhance learning.

WELLNESS ELECTIVES


6042 Personal Fitness ½ credit

Personal Fitness is a course for students who have completed PE 1 and PE2. This is an elective course for physically motivated students. Class emphasis is focused on strength training, cardiovascular training, and fitness activities. A fitness log is kept each class and a workout program is followed.

Prerequisites: Phys Ed 1 and 2 Suggested grade levels: 10-12


6070 Everyday Survival Skills ½ credit

Students will explore everyday problems that we face today. Some topics include finance (taxes, loans, and credit card usage), car maintenance (changing a tire, oil changes), cooking (food prep hacks and meal planning), cleaning (laundry and cleaning tricks), house maintenance (simple repairs, clogged drains, cleaning furnace filters), and social etiquettes (tipping and clothing). We address getting a job, getting into college, parenting techniques, and buying a car and a house. We will tackle stress management and facing the variety of issues that life brings.

Prerequisite: None Suggested grade levels: 11-12


6082 Advanced Physical Education ½ credit

This is a more competitive class than the typical PE class. Indoor and outdoor games will be played. Team and Individual games will be played. There will also be a fitness component.
