Tech Help

Emailing helpdesk@lakeland272.org is the best way to ask for tech help if it isn’t something I can fix. You can always email me first or email help desk and me at the same time. Our tech department has been working hard to support us! Please type LOA and a short description of your problem in the subject line and your child's first and last name in the body of the email.

Community Building Challenge

We are going to join together at 3:00 Monday - Thursday during the Month of December in our Google Meeting for a quick picture of us all doing an activity together. The pictures will be included in slide shows during our Friday Assemblies.

Clubs are moving to 3:30-4:00

Most of the students were busy at 12:30 when we tried to have our club meetings, so I'm trying to have them at 3:30 this week instead to see if that is easier.

New Requirement for Quarter 2

I expect students will attend live Math, ELA, and Science/Social Studies starting this week, unless parents/guardians email me saying that they cannot attend for some reason. If they can not attend live, I expect that they will watch the recording of the lesson. I told students attending live was optional, because some cannot attend live because they are monitoring their data, they have bad internet connections, or they work on school work in the evenings or on the weekends. But too many students interpreted that I meant that live attendance was optional for everyone. I had students who fell behind last quarter because they were not attending live. So it is now expected that they attend live, unless I hear from parents/guardians. Thank you for supporting this.

Our Live Schedule:

9:00 AM Class Meeting

10:00 AM ELA Live

11:00 AM Math Live

12:30-1:30 PM Monday and Tuesday Only (Science or Social Studies Live)

Friday's Schedule is different this week:

10:30-11:30 AM Class Meeting

11:30 AM ELA Live

11:45 AM Math Live

🎉NEW Google Classroom

We will continue using the new Quarter 2 Google Classroom. Students should stay in the Quarter 1 Google Classroom, so we continue to have access to their writing from Quarter 1 and anything needed for Conferences. But they don't have to worry about any missing assignments from Quarter 1.

ELA

This week we will start reading, "Wrinkle in Time." If you haven't picked it up yet, it is waiting at LJHS to be picked up. If you already picked up books you should have "Wrinkle in Time" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth" as well as "The Giver." If you still need to pick them up, they are waiting at Lakeland Junior High (even if this isn't your "home" school). You can pick them up between 7:30 am - 2:30 pm at LJHS. And if that time doesn't work for you, please reach out to Sharon Schell and see if you can pick it up a little earlier or later one day. Thank you so much for picking up the books!

Math

We will have Live Math Classes this week. Some students didn't make up 6.2.1-6.2.5 last week, so they will still need to finish those and do the extension activity if they didn't do those while they were getting caught up with chapter 6.1. I have recordings of myself teaching 6.2.1-6.2.5 posted in Google Classroom.

Math live classes will be shorter than normal this week. Students will also be using i-Ready Math lessons on Monday and Wednesday and a Math Games on Friday. Information about that is also posted in Google Classroom.

i-Ready and IStation

Students should have all taken the i-Ready and IStation assessments before Thanksgiving, but some have not taken them. So if they are still available, they should do those on Monday. We will have these short assessments each month and it is important that students always take them when they are assigned.

Social Studies

We have a social studies project this week that is based on the 5 Themes of Geography that we learned about during Quarter 1. Students may draw their map on paper or poster board if they would like, but they may also make their map digitally in Google Slides. This is a project that students should work on each day this week. We will have live meetings on Monday and Tuesday to go over this project from 12:30 - 1:30.

Invention Convention Club meets at 2:00 on Wednesday this week

This is optional now. Just the students who are going to participate in the invention convention for sure need to attend.

Conferences This Week

If you haven't had a conference with me, please sign up for a time this week. I have times available Tuesday - Saturday.

How to Sign up for Conference

I emailed directions for how to sign up for a conference time. Email me if you didn't get that email or if you need help setting it up. We can also have the conference over the phone.

Past Weeks

  • Remember previous This Week's can be found under Past Weeks in the navigation menu.

How to Log into Skyward and Check Grades and Missing Work

If you need help monitoring their assignments, you might consider signing up for the google classroom guardian summaries here. You also may want to check over their Google Classroom Daily or Weekly to look and see what they have completed, what has been returned, and my comments on their assignments that I have returned.
