Tech Help

Emailing helpdesk@lakeland272.org is the best way to ask for tech help if it isn’t something I can fix. You can always email me first or email help desk and me at the same time. Our tech department has been working hard to support us! Please type LOA and a short description of your problem in the subject line and your child's first and last name in the body of the email.

Happy Valentine's Day!

We had a short lunch time party on Friday. I had students fill out a survey to let me know who they know in our class and who they want to get to know better. A lot of the kids felt like they don't know very many of their class mates and they want to get to know them better. So we will build some more team building time into our 9:00 Class Meetings and I will be adding more group time into our Live Instruction again. We also will schedule a lunch time Among Us game sometime this week for anyone who wants to join us. We didn't end up having enough time during our Valentine's Day Party.

No School Monday

Monday is President's Day. All Lakeland students are off that day. This could be a good catch up day for those who have missing assignments. I would love to start the week with no missing assignments!

No Missing Assignments?

Any students who have no missing assignments by the 21st will earn a special reward. We will brainstorm what we would like to do.

How to Log into Skyward to Access Report Cards, check grades, and check for missing assignments

Report cards were posted last week. One semester down! One more to go! I have entered and updated all of the Q3 assignments that have been turned in. Check Skyward and Google Classroom for updates. As always, let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for all your support! I really appreciate your kindness, communication, and team attitude! I care about all of my LOA families. Thanks once again for choosing to wander this path with me this year. Thank you for be dedicated and investing time and hard work. Go team 6th Grade LOA!

Student Led Conferences

March 1st - March 11th

We are working on our portfolios for Student Led Conferences. This is a time set aside for students to share what they are proud of, what their goals are, and how they are working toward those goals. They may present their portfolio more than once to all the important adults in their lives (Mom, Dad, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Guardians, Siblings etc.) Student Led Conferences are technically on March 11th. But my LOA students will be able to hold their student led conferences anytime between March 1st and March 11th. They must be completed before March 11th, but can be completed early. We will talk more about that as it gets closer.

Schedule this week:

9:00 Class Meeting Each Day

10:00 ELA Live Each Day

11:00 Math Live Each Day

(12:30 for the Afternoon Math Class)

Remember that live classes are required unless parents/guardians have contacted me. My students have been more successful when they hear the directions, can ask questions live, and I can hold them accountable. If they are excused from live instruction for the day, please make sure they either watch the videos that are attached to the assignment or the recording of the live class and they ask me for help if they need it.

Individual Meetings with students for Portfolios

Schedule linked in "This Week" above (only viewable by the students).

ELA Live

Students will be be reading articles about Science or Social Studies topics and filling out a RACES Graphic Organizer and writing a fictional story using information from the article.

If you still have "Wrinkle in Time" or "The Giver," please return them to LJHS. Please keep "Journey to the Center of the Earth." We will read that after we are done with our Book projects.

IStation Growth Monitoring (ELA)

I would like students to work on their IStation Assessment on Tuesday and finish by Friday. This is their normal monthly check up. We did the bigger benchmark assessment in January. It will auto save and they can take breaks and work on it each day until it is finished. Most will probably finish it Tuesday or Wednesday. (They can work on it over the weekend or in the evenings if needed). Remind them to focus, do their best, take breaks, but not stress. Help them by reminding everyone else around them they are working on an assessment too. When we meet to talk about goals, I have had some students say they rushed or they had a hard time focusing because there were distractions while they were trying to work. Some of the students' i-Ready and IStation data goes up and down each month. I'm wondering if it has has to do with what time of day the test is taken, how focused the student is, or if the student is distracted, tired, or stressed, etc. I would really like to see what growth they are capable of as they work toward their goals. Thanks for supporting them.

Math Live

AM: Some students are still finishing up 6.3 lessons and the 6/3 test. I have prerecorded lessons attached to all of the 6.3 lessons, so they can watch those as they work on getting caught up. These must be completed Sunday, February 21st. We started 6.4 last week and will continue working on 6/4 during Math Live.

PM: We are finishing up 6.3 this week. We will start 6.4 next week.

i-Ready Growth Monitoring (Math)

Most of my students completed their i-Ready Growth Monitoring Assessment last week. Thank you! I will email you if your child did not complete it. Please remind them to do their best, but do not stress. It will ask them questions they don't know yet, and that is ok.

Reading Logs

Students should be reading at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week. This quarter, students will fill out a journal style Google Doc about the book they are reading for their Book Project. After they finish their book, they will work on a Book Project. They should start their Book Project book this week if they have not already. Please help them pick a novel this weekend if they haven't already. They can pick any novel that they haven't read before. They may check out a book from the local library or the school library. They may read a book that you already own. If they need help picking a book, they can also send me a Google Chat message.

I have information about how to check out books from their home school library and the public libraries here: https://sites.google.com/lakeland272.org/mrshutsononline/free-resources

Typing Logs

We started these up again last week. Students should be typing 10 minutes a day on Typing.com and logging it on a Google Form in Google Classroom.
