Welcome

This project sponsored by Lakeland School District was founded in June of 2018. It was our intention to serve the patrons and parents of our Lakeland Jt School district. By empowering adults in our community through literacy we would boost and better support our students. Today, we extend this same mission to all our neighboring communities in Kootenai County. Through amazing volunteers and generous donations we offer support to adults in all areas of literacy from reading and writing to financial and computer literacy.

Adult Literacy Programs across the nation make a real difference in people's lives everyday, and do so with a dedicated corps of volunteers as well as staff. When adults learn to read, write, and use technology, they have the power to lift themselves out of poverty, find and keep sustainable employment, better support family education, and ultimately change their lives.

The Lakeland Literacy Project provides opportunities and empowers adults to gain the literacy skills needed to be self-sufficient and to participate fully in their workforce, community, family and as a lifelong learner.

Kat Gilmore

B.A./MA Community Literacy Director***************************I am excited to be leading Lakeland Literacy Project in bringing Adult Literacy Services to our community. I have worked with Adult Literacy as a tutor, trainer, instructor and board president for over 7 years.I have worked for Lakeland School District for 5 years and am also an adjunct professor at North Idaho College.

B.A./MA.ED/ Ed.SAssistant Superintendent***************************I am excited to be part of the Lakeland Literacy Project as we bring Adult Literacy Services to our community. I have focused on children's literacy for the past 28 years in our district. Through this project I have the opportunity to help adults improve their literacy skills so they can better support our students at home. This is a great partnership!
