Meet the Teacher

My name is Kathleen Hoerster (pronounced Her+Stir). This is my  23rd  year teaching at Lakehurst Elementary School. I have taught Kindergarten, Second, Third Grade, and Fifth Grade.  I have also completed my college studies here as well and was a substitute teacher before being hired full-time.  I've always wanted to be a teacher! I put myself through college and recently paid off my college loans! I earned my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts at Ocean County College. I transferred to Georgian Court College (now University) and have my Bachelors Degree in Education and Psychology. I received the honor of Teacher of the Year for the 2015-2016 year!

I grew up in Whiting, NJ.  My family and I live in Lacey. Our son is eight years old and our daughter is five years old.  We have two 11 year old  cats Clyde and Brooklyn that we adopted from the Popcorn Park Zoo.. We also have two lizards named Rusty & Dusty!   We have four amazingly sweet nieces (Autumn, Rorie, Lexx, and Lucy)  I also have three awesome nephews (Will, Nate, and Gavin). For fun, I like to scrapbook, play darts, make Shutterfly books , read books, and hang out with my friends and family. I also love being outdoors either walking, swimming in my pool, bike riding, kayaking, camping, fishing, hiking, boating, or hitting a lake or beach.

I'm extremely passionate about my career and devote a lot of time preparing my lessons. I appreciate the opportunity of serving your children every day. My goal is to continue to foster a postive classroom climate where children feel welcomed, loved, accepted,  and not afraid to take risks!
