Every week we had to record when we were teaching and what we were teaching. I used Google Sheets to record my Weekly schedule to teach and I used Google Docs to record what I would be teaching.
During the first and second week of placement, we were purely observing the teachers routine and teaching strategies. My weekly assignment included a "classroom walk through." I took pictures of all aspects of the classroom that are important to student learning and are prompts for students.
In week 2, my lessons included Guided Math and teaching students about place value. I worked with students who expressed need in place value and used different manipulative in order to help students understand in different ways. We practiced different questions, most often pulled from past EQAO using different strategies and reflecting on which strategies students found helped their understanding. I planned with my AT's guidance and she helped me modify and apply changes where I could to best benefit student learning. I learned how to include IEP, STEPS and differentiation into my lesson early so that I could apply this to all my lessons.
In week 3 of placement, we recorded student examples of learning. I showed examples of assessment as learning & assessment for learning. I used the examples of Daily Minds-on, Snapshot and Science Ecosystem inquiries. Take a look at my Google slides to see my student examples of assessment as & for.
This is an example of the Minds-on that the students completed each day. These questions were most often pulled from EQAO to help students prepare for the types of questions they will be answering.
Mrs. Fair was teaching me all about her strategies to teach effective math in grade 6, alongside constantly preparing for EQAO examination.
Mrs. Fair followed the format of a 3-part Math Lesson; minds-on, action, and consolidation. Minds-on happened at the beginning of the class and acted as a "warm-up" for students (see photo left). Action often involved a shared or independent activity introducing a new concept. Consolidation often involved number talks, discussing different solving strategies collaboratively.
Take a look at the #sketchnote below to see just how she provides constant evidence of learning in her math class!

Where did the last 5 weeks go?
I had the most AMAZING time teaching the sweet grade 6’s at Fieldcrest this semester. They keep asking “why do you have to leave” and I feel that so deeply too. I wish I could stay with them forever!
Working with my AT was an amazing experience. I officially call her my SCDSB mom. My mom has been my strongest support throughout professional year thus far and it was incredibly comforting to have an AT JUST LIKE HER supporting me in this journey. This is just the beginning of my relationship with Caroline, and I am so excited!
My biggest take-away from this expirience is...
"it's not what I teach, but WHO."
Each student stole my heart in such a short amount of time, and I feel so honored to have taught them but most importantly to have learned from them for 5 of my most favorite weeks yet.
