The Stanley DEA Group Scoop!

Welcome to the Stanley Newsletter, also known as The Stanley DEA Group Scoop, presented to you by the Diversity and Equity Awareness Club! This is a MONTHLY newsletter where you can choose to enjoy any of the many topics available in the table of contents. If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments feel free to contact Anna Maxmin, Isabelle Culinco, Teagan Frase, Colbie Freese, Bhavana Kasalanti, Carina Trento, Eliza (Liz) Kellam, Edith (Edie) Maxmin, or Santana Tamayo. You can also fill out the google form on this page.

This is our final edition of the Newsletter for the 2020 through 2021 school year šŸ˜ and it has been so much fun to do! This month we decided to focus on a subject that we haven't covered yet...the LGBTQ+ Community! Next month (June) will be Pride Month as well so we thought this would be a fitting time to celebrate an important group in modern American Society! Other parts of the Newsletter (the Historical Section being one example) will be focusing on other themes of this month, such as Mental Health Awareness. Thank you for reading and supporting our Newsletter!

STEREOTYPE BUSTER OF THE MONTH: People who are LGBTQ+ are unreligious.... STEREOTYPE BUSTED!

Some people associate LGBTQ+ people as being unreligious. This is not true, and it is not proven. While there may be some people who are LGBTQ+ and unreligious, it's not like it is impossible for someone LGBTQ to be religious. In fact, there is plenty of proof of LGBTQ+ people being religious. Just as an example, there are dozens of gay ministers in churches all over the world, especially the United Church of Christ. It is false and unproven that someone who is LGBTQ+ is immediately unreligious. To prove my point, "the Human Rights Campaign promotes the idea that an individual can be gay and religious." (Wikipedia)

Stereotypes are just there to make people feel differently about themselves, and it's important to ignore them, because you are your own person. It's up to you to decide who you're going to be, not some random stereotype.

This month we created a video to celebrate summer and all the things that the DEA Club stands for! (you can also find this on the "Music, Videos, and Poetry" section)

If you would like to be a part of the creation of the newsletter feel free to join the Diversity and Equity Awareness Club! For the first part of the Monday club, we go through a short slideshow that highlights books, artwork, events, and other topics themed on cultural things. For the rest of the club, we go over and work on the newsletter! If you aren't able to come to the club, you can always write us an email or fill out the google form below to contribute!
