  • What is the Mayor's Risk Reduction Cabinet?

The Mayor's Risk Reduction Cabinet is an oversight entity focused on accountability measures to ensure senior managers and leadership adhere to their directives consistently.

  • What are the Cabinet's key overarching goals?

The intent of the Cabinet is to establish a data-driven approach to drive budgetary decisions regarding the allocation of resources in order to mitigate our exposure to risk, maximize opportunities for employee safety and wellness, minimize workers' compensation claims and liabilities, and to establish working groups dedicated to specific areas to help surface industry best practices.

  • Why is this important?

The City's risk and related liabilities are in dire need of city-wide collaboration, accountability and leadership. If left unaddressed, it is projected that annual total workers’ compensation costs and lost time will balloon to $250 million in Fiscal Year 2021-22.

  • Who is participating in the Cabinet?

The Cabinet is chaired by the Deputy Mayor of Budget and Innovation, and the City Council President and City Attorney are invited to lead the effort. The inaugural meeting is for all departments. It is mandated Building and Safety, City Administrative Office, DOT, General Services, LAFD, LAPD, Personnel, Recreation and Parks, Sanitation and Street Services participate in ensuing meetings.

  • How often will it meet?

In it's first year, the Cabinet will meet every month if possible, or quarterly at a minimum. The meeting schedule will be re-evaluated after year one.
