S-290 Intermediate Fire Behavior
The In-Service Training Section will host in collaboration with the sponsorship of the Los Angeles Fire Fighters Association (LAFFA), the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) S-290 Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior. LAFFA is proud to sponsor their members to attend this course designed to expand the members’ knowledge and abilities in the wildland fire environment. This is a classroom-based skills course designed to prepare the prospective fireline supervisor to undertake safe and effective fire management operations, develop fire behavior prediction knowledge and skills.
LAFFA will sponsor current members the $400 tuition making it free to any members in good standing. For those that are not current members of LAFFA, members may join the association before signing up for the class by clicking here to take part in the tuition sponsorship. For members choosing not to join the LAFFA, the cost of the class will be $400 which will be collected prior to the start of class to reserve your seat.
The course will be instructed by Brian Anderson, the United States Fire Services (USFS) Bear Divide Hotshot Superintendent and his cadre.

L-954 Safety Officer
Course Description:
This course is designed to provide local and state-level emergency responders with a robust understanding of the duties, responsibilities, and capabilities of an effective SOFR on an All-Hazards Incident Management Team. These responsibilities fall into two categories:
1) Responding to the incident and the safety needs of the incident, and
2) Effectively fulfilling the position responsibilities of a Safety Officer on an All-Hazards IMT.
Exercises, simulations, discussions, and a final exam enable students to process and apply their new knowledge. This will be a 4 day course.
PREREQUISITES: ICS 100, ICS 200, IS700, IS800, ICS 300 and ICS 400

be detailed on-duty and hired behind, if needed. Members attending off-duty will be

Course Description:
This course provides students with the tools and techniques to make the transition from Single Resource Boss to Incident Commander. The course focuses on Intelligence Gathering and Documentation; Size Up the Incident; Develop a Plan of Action; Post-fire Activities; Evaluating Incident Objectives and Manage the Incident. This will be a 2 day class.
LAFFA will sponsor current members the $400 tuition making it free to any members in good standing. Most LAFD members are already members of LAFFA, which is a nonprofit organization that represents all Los Angeles City Firefighters at the State level with an emphasis on improving training, benefits, and legislative initiatives to improve the fire service. The LAFFA Board has embarked on a new program in funding the professional development of its membership and is proud to sponsor their members to attend this course designed to expand members' knowledge and abilities in the wildland fire environment. The In-Service Training Section in coordination with a contracted vendor will be offering
L - 0960 All Hazards Division/Group Supervisor.
The course will provide local- and state- level emergency responders with a robust understanding of the duties, responsibilities, and capabilities of an effective Division/Group Supervisor on an All-Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT). The course walks participants through general information, including an overview of the Operations Section and information on incident mobilization, initial situational awareness, and unit management. It also provides detailed instruction on responding to the incident and the command needs of the incident, and emphasizes the importance of risk management and safety considerations.
This course is an instructor-led training that supports learning through discussion, lecture, and active participation in multiple exercises that provides a realistic, scenario-driven approach to mastering the skills required of a Supervisor.

Target Audience
