ROPE RESCUE TECHNICIAN (RRT) COURSE AVAILABLE FEBRUARY 24-28, 2025 CLOSED
The Los Angeles Fire Department Disaster Response Section will be offering a Rope Rescue Technician course. This course is based on the requirements set forth by NFPA 1670 & 1006, LAFD US&R Task Force, and the FFPM position at Air Operations.
Prerequisite: (1) Rope Rescue Awareness/Operations AND (2) Low Angle Rope Rescue Operational and Rescue Systems 1 AND Confined Space Rescue: Awareness
Dates: February 24 -28, 2025 from 0800-1700hrs

Confined Space Rescue Technician (CSRT) Available March 10-14, 2025 CLOSED
The Los Angeles Fire Department Disaster Response Section will be offering a Confined Space
Rescue Technician (CSRT) Course from March 10, 2025 – March 14, 2025. The course is an intensive hands-on 40 hour course that provides the skills and knowledge needed to prepare the confined space rescue technician to respond to confined space emergencies including identifying confined spaces and permit-required confined spaces, the hazards associated with permit-required confined spaces, target industries and hazards, state and federal regulations, components of a rescue operation, and the roles and responsibilities the rescue team. The SFT Confined Space Rescue Technician (CSRT) Course meets the requirements for NFPA 2500, NFPA 1670, LAFD US&R TF, and California Task Force One.
Prerequisites: RRAO (Rope Rescue Awareness Operations)

Machinery Rescue Technician (MRT) Course Available March 25-27, 2025 CLOSED
The Los Angeles City Fire Department Disaster Response Section is hosting Machinery Rescue Technician course from March 25-27, 2025 at the John Ruedy Memorial Training Center. This course provides the knowledge and skills to prepare an emergency responder to extricate victim(s) from machinery in a safe and effective manner in accordance with AHJ policies and procedures. Topics include sizing up an incident; establishing safety zones; mitigating hazards; stabilizing and creating access and egress openings for rescue; disentangling and removing victims; and terminating an incident. This course incorporates awareness, operations, and technician training based on NFPA 1006 (2021). It is a requirement for the FEMA team as well as for 2500 qualification.
Prerequisites: Confined Space Rescue Awareness AND Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue Technician OR Vehicle Extrication

Structural Collapse Specialist 1 & 2 (SCS1 & SCS2) Available April 7-11, 2025 and April 14-18, 2025 CLOSED
The Los Angeles Fire Department Disaster Response Section will be offering a Structural Collapse Specialist 1 & 2 (SCS1 & SCS2) course from April 7th, 2025 – April 11th, 2025 and April 14th, 2025 - April 18th, 2025 at The John Ruedy Memorial Training Center (JRMTC).This course provides skills and knowledge needed for the operations-level structural collapse specialist to rescue victims from a collapsed light frame and URM construction-type structure; including size up, incident action plans, search, cribbing systems, lifting and moving heavy loads, stabilization, breaching, and rescue. This class meets a requirement for US&R Task Force Bonus pay. This course meets the requirement for LAFD US&R Task Forces, NFPA 1006, 1670 and 2500. THIS IS A 2 PART COURSE CONSISTING OF 2 SETS OF 5 DAYS (TOTAL 10 DAYS) FOR SCS 1 AND 2. DO NOT APPLY IS UNABLE TO COMMIT TO BOTH SCS1 AND SCS2 DATES.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department Disaster Response Section is hosting Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue Technician from July 8, 2025 through July 10, 2025 at the John Ruedy Memorial Training Center. This course provides the knowledge and skills to prepare an emergency responder to extricate victim(s) from a common passenger vehicle in a safe and effective manner in accordance with AHJ policies and procedures. Topics include sizing up an incident; creating an incident action plan; establishing safety zones; mitigating hazards; stabilizing and creating access and egress openings for rescue from a vehicle resting on its wheels, side, and roof or in a multi-hazard configuration or environment; disentangling and removing victims; and terminating an incident. This course incorporates awareness, operations, and technician training based on NFPA 1006 (2021).

Trench Rescue Technician (TRT) Course Available July 23-25, 2025 CLOSED
The Los Angeles City Fire Department Disaster Response Section is hosting a State Fire Training (SFT) Trench Rescue Technician (TRT) Course from July 23, 2025 through July 25, 2025 at the John Ruedy Memorial Training Center. This course provides the skills and knowledge needed for the trench rescue technician to work safely and efficiently in a trench rescue environment. This hands-on training program includes trench and excavation regulations, soil characteristics, trench configurations and hazards, rescue team preparation, incident response, initial on-scene and pre-entry operations, shoring systems and components, shoring system installation, victim rescue and recovery, and incident termination. This course incorporates awareness, operations, and technician training based on NFPA 1006 (2021).
Prerequisites: Structural Collapse Specialist 1 OR Rescue Systems 1 AND Confined Space Rescue: Awareness

This course provides the knowledge and skills to prepare an emergency responder to extricate victim(s) from machinery in a safe and effective manner in accordance with AHJ policies and procedures. Topics include sizing up an incident; establishing safety zones; mitigating hazards; stabilizing and creating access and egress openings for rescue; disentangling and removing victims; and terminating an incident. This course incorporates awareness, operations, and technician training based on NFPA 1006 (2021). It is a requirement for the FEMA team as well as for the NFPA 2500 Technician level qualification.
