Given that the ongoing collective bargaining processes for Burton Tech and Gertz-Merkin began before the March 2025 announcement of Alliance Paid Parental Leave, UTLA-represented members at these two school sites are not currently eligible for these benefits.
It bridges the financial gap that staff experience when taking a leave for pregnancy, pregnancy-related medical conditions, or child bonding time.
It is a separate benefit from accrued sick, vacation, or personal time off.
It ensures eligible staff receive 100% of their regular wages for up to eight (8) weeks while they are out on an approved family leave.
It is one of multiple ways that eligible staff can continue to receive wages when they are on a family leave.
Alliance is partnering with Parento to provide Alliance Paid Parental Leave benefits to eligible staff.
Alliance Paid Parental Leave is designed to “top up” state benefits, like California State Disability Insurance and California Paid Family Leave, so that your income during an eligible leave equals 100% of your wages, for up to 8 weeks of pay.
All eligible working parents and their partners, not just those welcoming a child, receive unlimited access to parent coaching support through the Parent Experience Program offered by Parento. The Parent Experience Program includes:
Parent coaching: Virtual one-on-one parent coaching sessions for help with work-life management, parent questions and concerns, and high-touch emotional support at any parenting stage.
Parental leave pathways: Support building a personalized birth, parental leave, and return-to-work plan alongside a parent coach and postpartum doula.
Parento pods: Virtual group coaching to build connections with others, hear different perspectives, and create a community of support.
The Parento team provides personalized assistance to eligible staff to help them understand the wage replacement benefits that are available, give instructions for applying to state wage replacement programs, and explain what to expect from each program.

Once the leave request has been approved, HR will provide the forms and instructions to request Alliance Paid Parental Leave.
