Recent Activities

FY 2024 (April 2024 - March 2025)

• 2024.12.11 - 2025.01.19 | Shun Hongo, Hirokazu Yasuoka and Marlon del Aguila Guerrero conducted fieldwork in East Region, Cameroon. On 16th January, the Cameroon Team held a meeting at the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD) in Yaoundé.

• 2024.11.11 | The 11th Fashloks seminar was held online. AKAOKA Yuji presented on the progress of his research  in Cameroon on hunting simulation games.

• 2024.10.28 - 29 | 124th KUASS Symposium "Wildlife and Local Knowledge in Central Africa" was held at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN) and Kyoto University Center for African Area Studies (KU-CAAS). In addition to Fashloks members, we invited three researchers working in Central Africa (Dr Daniel Ingram, Dr Sandrine Gallois, Dr Graden Froese)  to present and discuss research in wild meat and local knowledge.

• 2024.7.16 - 9.8 | Shun Hongo, Juanita Gomez, Marlon del Aguila Guerrero and Daisuke Muramatsu conducted fieldwork in Puerto Nariño, Colombia. On 4th September, the Colombian team held a meeting at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá.

• 2024.8.1 | The 10th Fashloks seminar was held online. AKAOKA Yuji talked about his research plans in Cameroon.

• 2024.6.30 | HONGO Shun et al. gave an oral presentation at the 34th Annual Meeting of the Japan Society of Tropical Ecology.

• 2024.5.31 | We held the general meeting of FY2024 at Kyoto University Inamori Center and online, discussing the project structure and upcoming plans.

• 2024.30 - 5.4 | NAKABAYASHI Miyabi and YOKOYAMA Takumasa traveled to Sabah, Malaysia for research meetings.

• 2024.4.24 | The 9th FASHLOKS seminar was held online. Juanita Gómez talked about the Wildlife Values Framework and reported on fieldwork in Colombia.

• 2024.4.1 | Our project has been officially adopted as a Full Research project of the RIHN! (April 2024 - March 2030)

• 2024.3.29 | The 8th FASHLOKS seminar was held online. MATSUURA Naoki reported on the research meeting and fieldwork in Gabon.

• 2024.01.13 | The 7th workshop was held in collaboration with the "Kyoto University African Studies Seminar" (at The Center for African Studies, Kyoto University, and online),. Emmanuel Mvé Mebia, Naoki Matsuura and Shun Hongo spoke and discussed wildlife hunting and community development in Gabon.

• We invited Emmanuel Mvé Mebia, a project member in the Gabon Group, to Japan. He visited Kyoto University, the National Institute for Humanity and Nature and the National Museum of Ethnology, where he interacted with many African researchers, including project members.

• 2023.12.19 - 2024.01.07 | Shun Hongo, Nahoko Tokuyama, Naoki Matsuura, Emmanuel Mvé Mebia, Etienne Akomo-Okoue and Saeko Terada conducted field surveys in Mivoul and Lopé, Gabon.

• 2023.10.23 | The 6th seminar was held online. Takumasa Yokoyama reported on the research meeting and fieldwork in Sabah, Borneo.

• 2023.09.22 | The 5th seminar was held in Nagoya and online (hybrid). Naoki Matsuura and Saeko Terada reported on the 31st International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB 2023) held in Rwanda.

• 2023.09.08 | Shun Hongo gave an oral presentation entitled "Coproduction of wildlife hunting management in tropical rainforests with local and local knowledge and science" at the 2023 Congress of the Mammalogical Society of Japan. Slide (in Japanese)

• 2023.08.21 - 09.03 | Shun Hongo, Nahoko Tokuyama, Miyabi Nakabayashi and Takumasa Yokoyama conducted field surveys in Sabah, Malaysia.

• 2023.07.31 | The 4th seminar was held online. Shun Hongo reported on the research meeting and fieldwork in Colombia.

• 2023.06.25 - 07.13 | Shun Hongo, Juanita Gómez and Nathalie van Vliet conducted research meetings and field surveys in Puerto Nariño, Colombia.

• 2023.06.12, 15 | IS/FS workshop at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature. Shun Hongo introduced the project and its plans. Nahoko Tokuyama and Miyabi Nakabayashi also participated in the workshop.

• 2023.06.02 | The 3rd seminar was held at Kyoto University and online. Takuma Yokoyama gave a presentation on his research project in DR Congo.

• 2023.05.28 | A round-table discussion was held with Program Manager Motoji Matsuda. Shun Hongo gave an overview of the project and its plans, and Dr Matsuda and Prof Mitsuo Ichikawa (Emeritus Professor, Kyoto University) provided comments.

• 2023.05.11 | The 2nd seminar was held online. Shun Hongo explained the aims of the project and discussed upcoming activities with the members.

• 2023.04.26 | The 1st seminar was held online. Shun Hongo explained the aims of the project and discussed upcoming activities with the members.

• 2023.04.01 | The project was launched as an FS at Research Institute for Humanity and Nature.
