Cadet Activities
Leadership
The JROTC staff is entirely student led, and handles most of the heavy lifting when it comes to managing the corps. It's made up of some of our best and most outstanding cadets, who work hard and tirelessly to fulfill their duties to the program.
Our Squadron Commander, C/LTC Nicholas Strange, has been in the corps all of his four years of high school. He is very experienced and well loved by the corps, making him an amazing, trustworthy Squadron Commander. Second in command is our Deputy Squadron Commander, C/MAJ Abigail McCoy. Se has also been in the corps for all of her four years of high school and is quite accomplished in the corps. Our operations officer for this year is C/CAPT Travis Hamilton. He is very dedicated to the corps and is also The kitty Hawk Commander
Clubs
Drill
The Drill team commander this year is C/2LT Thomas Carlson. Every year the drill team goes down to Utah to compete in the annual drill meet. The competition consists of marching in 30, 50, and sometimes even 70 command drill sequences.
Color Guard
The Color Guard Club commander this year is C/CAPT Aiden Gill. Color Guard also competes in this competition with its own ceremonial Color Guard sequences. Last year our Color Guard team placed 3rd! The Color Guard Club also performs flag presenting ceremonies before sports games throughout the school year.
Rocket Club
The Rocket Club commander for this year is C/SMSGT Jadyn McCane. Over the course of a few months, participants in the club build, customize, and launch rockets into the air. Whoever’s rocket is able to launch, deploy its parachute, and successfully land safely earns their very own Rocket Club Badge.
APT
The Awareness Presentation Team, or APT for short, is led by C/CAPT Lyle Laddusaw. The APT team plans, organizes, and executes anything from fun games and prizes, to informative posters for Red Ribbon Week.
Stellar Explorers
The Stellar Explorers commander is led by TSgt. Lievsay. The Stellar Explorers Team compete in difficult tests for a chance to go to the Texas space center.
Marksmanship
We are all very excited for the newest club that’s been added to the program at KunaHigh School: Marksmanship Club! Marksmanship is a competition shooting team led by our very own Aerospace Science Instructor, TSgt. Timothy Lievsay.
Model Club
Unfortunately, we didn't have a model club this year, but normally it would involve building and learning about important military vehicles.
Community Service Projects
Community service is a big part of JROTC. Throughout the year we participate and lead
countless service projects like Alzheimer’s Walk, Rake up Kuna, and Veteran’s Day Assembly,
raking in approximately 1400 service hours just this last year.
Alzheimer's Walk
Every year the corps participates in the Alzheimers Walk, hosted by the Alzheimer's Association.
It's a fundraiser event where people gather together to support and promote awareness for
Alzheimer's disease. Over 50 cadets participated in this year's Alzheimer's Walk.
Rake Up Kuna
The squadron helps the NHS with raking up the town of Kuna. JROTC cadets go around and
help people in need clean up their yard. The squadron spends
several hours at different houses raking up leaves.
Veteran's Day Assembly
Every year the JROTC program hosts the Veterans Day Assembly for our veterans. On this day
we commemorate and pay our respects to our veterans as well as the brave men and women
who didn’t make it home. The entire squadron participates in putting together this assembly to
show our appreciation and support.
Physical Training (P.T.)
Part of the JROTC program is physical fitness. Every Friday, cadets participate in rigorous
workout routines. This ensures that our cadets are fit and ready for any challenge. Not just
physically, but also mentally; as it builds good endurance.
Recruiting
Recruiting is a big part of JROTC. It is the main way of getting new cadets for the following year.
This year C/2LT Alexis Smith is in charge of recruiting. She goes to the middle schools with a
team of cadets from all over the corps. From high ranking commanders to first year cadets. She
is constantly on the lookout for potential new cadets for the upcoming year!
