Family and Consumer Sciences education provides tools for individuals and families to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse global society. The unique focus is on the interdependence of families and work. This key element of FACS allows students to examine the tools needed in their toolbox to start and maintain these essential relationships.
Family and Consumer Sciences education is both academic and career/technical education that reaches beyond the educational system into the community as it focuses on the needs of individuals and families. Our classes incorporate math and science skills that are the foundation of food preparation. We explore our local community and the world learning about history, geography and cultures. Students examine the developing child and the interconnectedness of their actions and outcomes.
Family and Consumer Sciences programs provide a pathway for student attainment of the intermediate and commencement level New York State Learning Standards in both Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) and Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS). Family and Consumer Sciences education prepares students for success in both postsecondary education, employment, and life.
