Kankakee School District will adopt a curriculum that is aligned with:
- The District’s educational philosophy and goals.
- Scholar needs as identified by research, demographics, and scholar achievement and other data.
- The knowledge, skills, and abilities by research for scholars to become life-long learners.
- The minimum requirements of State and federal law and regulations for curriculum and graduation requirements.
- The Illinois State Learning Standards and any District learning standards.
- Any required State or federal scholar testing.
In order for a course or curriculum to be adopted, you must go through the following process:
1. Discuss the course with your building administrator
2. Complete the Request for Course to Instructional Programs
3. Your request will be reviewed by Instructional Programs and by the Board of Education
Once a curriculum has been adopted, it will go through a curriculum review program. The purpose of this program is to:
- Ensure regular evaluations of the curriculum and instructional program.
- Ensure the curriculum continues to meet the stated adoption criteria.
- Include input from a cross-section of teachers, administrators, parents, and scholars, representing all schools, grade levels, disciplines, and specialized and alternative programs.
- Coordinate with the process for evaluating the instructional program and materials.
